Angelina Jolie is considered one of the top actresses in Hollywood. She has worked with several big directors and actors in the industry in her years-long career. Some of her renowned works include Salt, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Maleficent, Gia, and many more. Over the years, she has never been restricted to doing certain types of roles only and has explored a wide range of movie characters.
In 2004, she went on to do a historical-war adventure film alongside Colin Farrell. She played the role of Olympias in Alexander’s movie. The film was helmed by Oliver Stone and the screenplay was penned by Christopher Kyle and Laeta Kalogridis. Once the Maleficent actress recalled a scene behind the scenes which angered her.

Angelina Jolie has always believed that Farrell was a perfect choice for the role of Alexander the Great. As he has all the qualities of a great king and also comes from a good place. The Lara Croft actress praised his co-star calling him a “hardworking” and “well-spirited” person. She thinks that the actor doesn’t need to be the center, and is not at all arrogant or selfish. She praised his orator skills as Alexander’s character and believes he has the ability to inspire a group of people by it.
In one of the scenes in the movie, Olympias spits on Alexander the Great. But it’s known that it wasn’t an act or scripted, she really did it in real anger.
“That was improvised. That just happened. And me spitting on him just happened. It was when they were fighting and it actually came out of him disrespecting her. In fact, it was a crass thing and it angered me.”
Alexander the Great’s disrespect to Queen Olympias didn’t sit well with Angelina Jolie and she spat on Farrell for this reason. Apart from this scenario, the onscreen chemistry of both actors was truly appreciated by the viewers.
Did Colin Farrell Like To Work With Angelina Jolie On This Film?
Who will not like working with the top actress in Hollywood? Colin Farell loved working with the Marvel Star. In a past interview with IGN, he showered praises on the Queen Olympias actress. He considers her to be a real powerhouse of a performance. At the time of the film, many people considered it to be a not-perfect casting because of the age difference between the actors. But Angelina Jolie really pulled off her role as Alexander’s mother even after being younger for the role.
“Once you get over the initial hurdle of the irony of it all it’s fine. She’s such a f***ing brilliant actor; such a powerhouse. She created such a definitive character and put such an incredible and individual seal on it. To look in her eyes and see the way she looked and the way she held herself, with such regality, it was easy. I didn’t find it a stretch.”
Apart from the viewers, even Jolie had doubts about taking on the role of mother at the age of 29. She found this idea to be ” ridiculous” just like other people. But she had a conversation about it with Colin Farrell and Oliver Stone, and she got a real idea about how the role is going to go forward. As per Angelina Jolie, the director cast only those he finds perfect for the role and for him it was her.
