The particular revelation has grabbed the attention of fans, who can’t help but connect Jolie’s edge over Cruise to revenge on her ex-husband Brad Pitt. Cruise made headlines in the past when Pitt revealed that he felt miserable working with the Mission Impossible star.
Tom Cruise Made Brad Pitt Feel Miserable
During the filming of Interview with the Vampire in 1994, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were co-stars, and Pitt later confessed that Cruise made him feel “miserable” during the shoot. Although he did not reveal the exact reason for this, Pitt mentioned that Cruise’s constant desire to be the best and underlying competition caused a strain on their relationship. The Bullet Train star also compared himself and the Vanilla Sky star to two opposite poles.
“He bugged me. There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him. He’s North Pole, I’m South. He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation.”
Angelina Jolie’s Selection In The Salt
Salt is a 2010 action-thriller film starring Angelina Jolie. She plays a CIA agent accused of being a Russian spy and goes on the run to prove her innocence while trying to uncover a bigger conspiracy. The film was created keeping in mind a male star, and makers had the name of Tom Cruise in their mind, Top Gun: Maverick star was too interested in the movie. Phillip Noyce, the director of the movie, revealed that Cruise was never signed, and shared how the Gia star came into the picture. Noyce added and praised the preparation and performance of the Original Sin star.
“Well, Tom Cruise was never signed, but he was really thinking about it. We needed a start date, so we needed an actor. Amy Pascal, head of Sony Pictures, said ‘Let’s send it to Angelina.’ It seemed for a moment to be an outrageous idea! Then I thought about it and realized it only had pluses. It’s true that Amy Pascal had joked to Angelina about her being a Bond Girl one day and Angelina really said, ‘No I don’t want to be a Bond Girl. I want to be Bond’.”
Noyce added and praised the preparation and performance of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star in the action scenes.
She trains so hard, and she does so much preparation for stunt sequences. She is just absolutely focused, and she really knows how to make a belief and how to act. You really believe that she is knocking those bad guys down with such strength!”
The Eternals actress shared her views and experience in leading an independent action film in Salt. The Girl, Interrupted star noted that she enjoyed shooting the film.
“I hadn’t seen a film where a woman had done… I had done a lot of action movies but none that were based in reality. So it was such a big challenge, people weren’t sure it could be pulled off. Anytime someone questions if something can be pulled off, it’s hard not to want to try.”
It seemed like The Tourist star was successful in delivering an impactful action movie to the audiences. The Salt movie was a commercial success and grossed mostly positive reviews from the audience and critics. Jolie surely snatched a hit film from Cruise’s filmography.
