Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel Dune got its cinematic debut in 2021 when Denis Villeneuve adapted it into a blockbuster film starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya. Denis Villeneuve Talks About A Dune Trilogy

After the massive success of Dune, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2 which is set to release in March 2024, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Zendaya-Timothee Chalamet starrer is already getting a great deal of hype on social media. Villeneuve now looks to be raising the bar further with the announcement that Dune 3 could be in the works soon. Speaking of his desire to see his dream come to fruition, the director said,

“There are words on paper. If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream.”

Following this exciting announcement, netizens and fans took to social media to express their excitement about the possibility of a Dune trilogy and even compared it to some of the greatest trilogies that have been produced in Hollywood. Others though, were cautious about the news and hoped to see Dune 2 do well before considering a 3rd film.

With Denis Villeneuve tempting audiences with a potential Dune 3, the expectations for Dune 2 to reach the cinematic heights of the first film are now expectedly high.

Denis Villeneuve’s Expectations for Dune 2

When Denis Villeneuve took up the mammoth task of adapting Frank Herbert’s sprawling and complex novel, there was a worry that he would struggle to incorporate the vast nature of the narrative into one single film. But the director made the smart move of creating a second part and allowing the story to breathe easier through 2 films. Dune 2 is set to release in November and Villeneuve couldn’t be more happy and excited. The Blade 2049 filmmaker said,

“The movie is alive! Part One was like the promise of something, but Part Two delivers on that. I’m exhausted, but a happy director.”

Villeneuve also elaborated that Dune 2 will feature a more intimate development of the relationship between Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul and Zendaya’s character Chani, which is said to be one of the significant features of the film.

Dune 2 has seen a slight delay in release date and might be released on March 14, 2023.
