Shazam star Zachary Levi reveals his wild idea for the franchise’s third film. DC Studios head James Gunn has made tremendous changes with the roster of projects arriving soon. As the old DC Extended Universe closes its curtains, a few DC films are still expected to release on the big screen.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will pick up after the events in the 2019 film, with the family facing more than one threat as the franchise introduces the Daughters of Atlas. The third installment is not yet confirmed, but Levi is pretty enthusiastic about his idea for the next adventure.
Shazam Lead Zachary Levi Reveals His Bizarre Idea For Third Film
Zachary Levi spoke with Fandango about the future path of the Shazam franchise. The actor admitted the vagueness of the studio’s plans for the film series. He also noted the kids are growing up too fast.
“With our particular franchise, it’s been very difficult for me to wrap my head around what would be the move. Partly because all the kids are growing like weeds, so I don’t even know how that applies to the dynamic of what the movie’s going to be.”
When asked what idea he would pitch to James Gunn in case the final installment gets a go signal, Levi shared:
“I’ve never seen a superhero zombie movie. Genuinely, I would love to kill zombies, and I think it would be really fun to do Shazam [3]. Not an undead Shazam, but rather we’re having to fight off like hordes of the undead.”
During the SDCC panel, Levi addressed the rumor of a threequel which he clearly pointed out a possible decision. The final say would still rely on the performance of the sequel this year. The actor encouraged fans to support the film, as the collective effort would potentially yield a positive answer from the studio heads.
The advent of the brand-new DC Universe will see a lot of changes in the cast, which will serve as a major reset for the studio. Gunn’s attempt to wipe off any traces of the old DCEU has already begun, starting with replacing actors of iconic superhero characters such as Superman and Batman. It is still in the early process, and some parts of the DCEU may remain.
Will Shazam 3 Still Happen Under James Gunn’s DC Universe?
As stated, Shazam 3’s possibility lies in its commercial and critical success. Regardless, Gunn will find a way to fit the franchise into the newly built DC Universe. There are lots of factors affecting the victory of the film as of the moment, as fans would remember Zachary Levi’s controversial anti-vax tweets. Warner Bros. Discovery did not release any statement regarding the actor’s scandalous post.
For now, Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ main concern is to address the changes in the movie after the two-year time jump and how the Shazam family would be able to utilize their powers after they have turned 18. Once resolved, the third film is easy to plan out from there.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will arrive in theaters on March 17, 2023.
