Billy Porter has been setting milestone after milestone ever since he started working as an actor in the Hollywood industry. From being the first gay man of color to get an Emmy Award to having a career as a musician; he has achieved quite a lot of things. The hard work that he has put into his career shows profoundly. Currently, the actor spoke up about his contribution to the SAG-AFTRA Strikes and how they have affected him.
The Writers and Actors Strikes are happening in full swing with both writers, actors, and supporters of the two standing by each other for a common goal. Although there is a majority of people who striking, there are many who are against it and are vocal about it. Others have made quite a few contradictory remarks, many of which impacted Porter.
Billy Porter Addresses Bob Iger’s Remarks
Due to the series of strikes, various projects have been put on hold. Those who earn a significant amount of money may not have taken a hit from all the delays, but the other half of the industry most certainly has. The people are fighting dedicatedly for their beliefs and Billy Porter is shocked to see that people like Bog Iger are completely disregarding their goals.
“The streaming companies are notoriously opaque with their viewership figures. The business has evolved. So the contract has to evolve and change, period. To hear Bob Iger say that our demands for a living wage are unrealistic? While he makes $78,000 a day?”
He focused on how film is not the only mode of viewership anymore and the domination of streaming services has made things much more difficult for actors and writers. They do not get paid enough and no matter how much the series or movie may succeed, it would not affect their pay. To take a hit at Iger, Porter even added as to how someone who probably earns a massive amount on a daily basis would not understand the problem and call the demands of the people unrealistic so nonchalantly when they are the exact opposite of that.
Billy Porter Had To Gave Up His House
Billy Porter revealed that he is practically unemployed at the moment because every project that he was supposed to star in was put on hold or delayed until the strike ends. Even though he is taking part in the strike, there is only so much he can do to support himself. In terms of his own funds, they have all drained out.
“I was supposed to be in a new movie and on a new television show starting in September. None of that is happening. So to the person who said, ‘We’re going to starve them out until they have to sell their apartments’ — you’ve already starved me out.”
This was stretched to the point where the singer was forced to sell his own house. He mocked the anonymous Hollywood executive who was ready to wait out until everyone on strike was exhausted and confirmed that if that is what they were waiting for, then they have it.
