The Writers and Actors Strike is currently striving to bring about significant change in Hollywood with regard to job opportunities, pay parity, and bigger and better recognition for all members associated with the film industry. The revolution has brought forth many people associated with Hollywood to express their honest opinions on the future of their work in the industry. Most recently, the fraternity of Marvel VFX artists who are the backbone of many technically brilliant MCU films, has revealed disturbing details about their working conditions and grueling schedules that have seen them toil without adequate financial compensation or emotional support. VFX Producer Who Worked On Michael B. Jordan’s Black Panther Faced Discrimination
With the Hollywood Writers and Actors Strike gaining momentum, the industry’s technicians are also coming forward to stake their claim for justice. A VFX producer going by the name of Emily who worked extensively in films of the MCU, revealed shocking details about her experience on set. Apart from the extremely tiring 16-hour shifts with an understaffed team that did not justify her minimal pay, the VFX artist confessed that she also faced gender discrimination on set when being interviewed for the job. Speaking of the controversial conditions that were laid before her in MCU’s Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, Emily said,
“You’re not allowed to have a husband or a partner or kids when you work for Marvel or in visual effects? That’s ridiculous.”
Emily confided in Maggie Kraisamutr, a veteran of 20 years in the VFX field who expressed shock on learning that it had occurred with Marvel Studios, especially since she had worked for Disney, the parent company for about five years. Kraisamutr also stressed the importance of creating a union of VFX artists to address the issue on a serious level.
