Kate Winslet Opens Up About Being Fat Shamed

In her October Vogue cover story, which was released on September 11, Kate Winslet, at the age of 47, shared that she had often been told she didn’t have the right body shape and that she should expect less in her career.

Winslet told Vogue:

“I was consistently told I was the wrong shape. was consistently told I would have to settle for less.”

Nonetheless, as a mother of three, she finds a positive side to the adversity she has faced, crediting it with fortifying her resolve and instilling a determination not to tolerate mistreatment from anyone. She also made a connection to the #MeToo movement, noting that it has empowered younger actresses to be less afraid of speaking out and challenging harmful conventions and practices within the entertainment industry.

She continued:

“Young actresses now — fu*k me — they are unafraid. It makes me so proud. And I think, Yes, all the sh*t flinging, all the struggle, all the using my voice for years, often being finger-pointed at and laughed at — I don’t give a sh*t!”

Kate Winslet emphasized that every challenge she faced was incredibly rewarding. She went on to highlight how the cultural landscape is evolving in ways she couldn’t have fathomed during her twenties.
