Many Hollywood actors have had the opportunity to portray the DC superhero Batman on the screen. While some have turned out to be all-time fan favorites, others did not leave the same impression on fans and critics. George Clooney, who portrayed the Dark Knight in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, seems to fit under the latter category. The movie follows Batman and Robin working together to prevent Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy from taking over the world.
It is considered a financial disappointment and was harshly criticized by critics, who gave it only a 12% score. And seems like Clooney’s son Alexander also feels the same about the movie, as the actor shared that his son did not seem impressed after the Gravity star told him that he also portrayed Batman.
George Clooney Shares His Son’s Reaction to His Batman
During an appearance on CBS Mornings with his wife, Amal Clooney, George Clooney shared his son Alexander’s reaction to him playing Batman. He said that his son loves Batman, who is also his favorite superhero. However, when he learned that his father also played the Dark Knight, Alexander did not seem too impressed with the fact that his father portrayed his favorite superhero.
“‘I go, ‘What’s your favorite superhero?’ He goes, you know, ‘Batman.’ And I go, ‘You know, I was Batman.’ And he goes, ‘Yeah but not anymore.'”
The ER star shares two children with his wife and high-profile human-rights lawyer, Amal Clooney. His son Alexander and daughter Ella are twins born in June 2017. The couple has been together since they first met in 2013 and got married a year later in 2014.
As for his son not being too impressed with the fact that he once played the DC superhero, he doesn’t seem to be the only one. Critics described Clooney’s performance as “there isn’t much to say about his performance because there isn’t much performance to discuss.” The actor has also shared that the 1997 film has taught him to choose better scripts.
George Clooney’s Future as Batman
More than a decade and a half later, George Clooney made his comeback as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, in the Ezra Miller feature The Flash. It has left fans curious if the DC Studios co-CEOs are planning to continue with the Tomorrowland star as Batman in the new DCU as well.
Considering that the cape Crusader will be joined by his son Damien in The Brave & The Bold, it is believed that the character would be portrayed by a much senior actor. However, James Gunn has debunked such rumors and discussions, saying, “Batman will be Bruce Wayne, and the actor isn’t cast yet!” Clooney has also shared on multiple occasions that he hated playing the DC superhero.
Batman & Robin is available on Max. The Flash is currently playing in theatres.
