Nicolas Cage is one of Hollywood’s most well-recognized, respected, and talented actors. Having starred in some of the most diverse and versatile roles, with Ghost Rider, National Treasure, City of Angels, and Lord of War being some examples, there is absolutely no doubt that he has a lot of range in what types of character he can play. He has also been awarded a number of accolades for his works, including winning the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his work in his 1995 drama film, Leaving Las Vegas.
Having been very experienced in the ins and outs of the film industry, it is only natural that Cage would have a very serious reason for walking off set. This is why it is quite odd to find out that Cage did exactly this on the set of The Old Way, where the actor walked off after a set armorer caused problems.
Nicolas Cage Walked Off Set Because Of Armorer’s Mistakes
During an interview with The Wrap, Stu Brumbaugh, who served as a key grip on Nicolas Cage‘s The Old Way, revealed that an on-set incident left the actor so angry that he walked off-set for a bit. Elaborating on this, he revealed that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a 24-year-old armorer, who handled the weapons on the set of the production made a very big mistake a number of times that left many on set very concerned as to what was going on.
“Make an announcement, you just blew my f***ing eardrums out!” said Cage according to Brumbaugh in The Warp interview
Reed discharged a gun near the cast and crew without warning; not once, but twice in the span of three days, concerning everyone on the set including Cage. The actor’s reaction was much different than the others, however, as he ended up walking off-set, yelling that Reed had blown his eardrums. After this happened, Brumbaugh stated that he told the assistant director that Reed needed to go as she was very new to the business and was not working at the same level and speed as the rest of the cast and crew.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Became One Of The People Responsible For The Alec Baldwin Shooting
This was not the last time that something like this happened as Hannah Gutierrez-Reed ended up being one of the people responsible for a much more serious matter. While filming the film Rust, starring Alec Baldwin, a live round was discharged from a revolver that was being used as a prop by the actor, resulting in the cinematographer of the film, Halyna Hutchins, being fatally shot and the director Joel Souza being injured.
After these events took place, a deep investigation was done to find out the reason for this mishap and a list of the crew was found. This list included the names of people who were involved in the handling of the prop gun and Reed’s name was also included in this.
