Before she became the Mean Girl[s] of Hollywood, Lindsay Lohan was the star of the 2003 fantasy comedy Freaky Friday. Starring alongside the Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, Lohan portrayed a teenage musician, Anna Coleman. However, things take an unexpected turn when she and her mother’s bodies get swapped mysteriously via a fortune cookie. It was her second big-screen role after her 1998 film The Parent Trap.
The movie celebrated its 20th anniversary this month, and during a recent interview, her co-star Chad Michael Murray revealed that the Mean Girls star was extremely nervous while filming their kiss scene in the movie.
Lindsay Lohan Was Nervous For Her First On-Screen Kiss
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 2003 film Freaky Friday, director Mark Waters, producer Andrew Gunn, along some of the cast members of the movie sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to share some behind-the-scenes stories of the film.
During the interview, Chad Michael Murray, who starred opposite Lindsay Lohan as her love interest Jake, recalled his co-star being very nervous about filming their kiss scene. Considering it was her first on-screen kiss, her co-star also understood why she felt that way.
“And that was a big moment because that was Lindsay’s first onscreen kiss,” he said. He shared that it resulted in him getting advised to take the lead, but Murray, who was also only 19 at the time, was not too sure about it himself either.
“So, they’re coming to me like I’m some kind of pro or something,” he shared. He agreed and did try his best to get her comfortable before they started filming the scene. However, it was her 64-year-old co-star who proved to be helpful for her first on-screen kiss.
Jamie Lee Curtis Made Lindsay Lohan Comfortable
Further recalling the filming of the 2003 movie, Chad Michael Murray shared that it was Jamie Lee Curtis who saved the day. And she did make her comfortable by kissing the Gilmore Girls actor first. He claimed that she told her that there was nothing to worry about and told her to just get it done before she went in and kissed him.
“She’s like, ‘Lindsay, it’s fine. It’s easy. You have nothing to worry about. Just kiss him. Just go for it. Just get it out of the way now,” Murray recalled. He explained that seeing how nervous Lindsay Lohan was, she grabbed him by the back of his head and kissed him. He shared that not only did it help Lohan get comfortable but also made Murray’s father “incredibly jealous” of him.
