However, regardless of many broken bones and bruises, the actor embraced his work in numerous action-packed movies.
Jackie Chan Is Known For Performing His Own Stunts
Having a passion for martial arts, Chinese actor Jackie Chan is renowned for more than his fighting abilities in Hollywood. Appearing in blockbuster movies, Chan is readily known for putting himself in potentially life-threatening situations. Regarded as one of the greatest martial arts icons in the world, the actor began committing himself to his own stunts in the 1980s.
Risking his life and suffering severe injuries while shooting, Jackie Chan regularly involved himself in a long list of headline-grabbing stunts. Joined by his own group of stuntmen, Chan developed a pattern of jumping off multi-story buildings, leaping through glass windows, hanging off helicopters, and even fighting.
Appearing in action-packed movies like Armour of God and Drunken Master II, Jackie Chan utilized his martial arts skills. However, performing his own stunts wasn’t always fun since it often risked his life and landed the kung fu star in mortal peril. Often times Chan scared the life out of his crew, as he ended up engaging in horrible stunts that caused him to be hospitalized.
Jackie Chan Recalls The His Worst Possible Injuries
While most of the time Jackie Chan successfully pulled off dangerous stunts in his years of Hollywood career, at times the actor suffered severe injuries that left major scars. Appearing on the talk show with Conan O’Brien, the martial arts icon recalled a few of his stunts that went horribly wrong. Showing off his scars, Chan discussed how he was once rushed to the hospital when he started bleeding through his ear.
Discussing his failed stunt performance on the set of the 1989 Hong Kong movie, Armour of God, Jackie Chan recalled the action scene from Yugoslavia. Supposed to jump from a tree branch to a castle roof, Chan stated how the branch snapped in between and he came crashing down from a height of 25 feet. Falling all the way to the ground, Chan’s head collided with a rock, and immediately blood started spurting out of his ear.
Barely conscious, Jackie Chan was rushed to the hospital for immediate care. He was then informed how his skull had partially collapsed, with a piece of bone lodged inside his brain. Discussing the horrific incident with Conan O’Brien, Chan left the host stunned when he mentioned having a hole in his head. “You got a hole in your head?” O’Brien asked repeatedly, failing to fathom.
