When you have too many soups cooking the broth, the broth’s going to taste really bad. This would apply to tons of movies & TV shows in the modern era of Hollywood where numerous actors with huge egos end up bombing a project’s production phase. In the case of Succession, too many soups end up making the broth taste way better.
Succession, despite not having a star-studded cast, is a brilliant TV series on its own. We’ll talk about that later, but do the actors in the series have the same chemistry in real life as they do on screen? Brian Cox’s latest comments on Jeremy Strong’s working methods don’t seem to hint at the possibility of that being a thing.
Brian Cox Takes A Jab At Succession Co-Star Jeremy Strong’s Method Acting
A cast working together to create a thrilling series is what makes them win Emmys. That’s why Succession has constantly ranked as one of the most well-received TV series ever since its release in the summer of 2018, the cast is just glued to performing in their roles.
Given their different takes on how the show should continue, or how things should be handled in general (they’re artists after all), co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong- who play the father-son duo of Logan Roy and Kendall Roy- can’t seem to get along at all.
Cox himself gave a snarky hit toward his co-star’s method acting approach to the TV series. The 76-year-old, during an interview with Town & Country magazine, expressed his annoyance at Strong’s method acting-
“Oh, it’s fucking annoying. Don’t get me going on it.”
The Rushmore star then switched to a more diplomatic tone-
“He’s a very good actor, and the rest of the ensemble is all okay with this. But knowing a character and what the character does is only part of the skill set.”
“He’s still that guy, because he feels if he went somewhere else he’d lose it. But he won’t! Strong is talented. He’s fucking gifted. When you’ve got the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and have a hit of marijuana, you know?”
Advice from a senior as experienced as Brian Cox has got to have some value. All Cox asks is for his Succession co-star to take a backseat and let the role take over him!
Jeremy Strong Takes Succession Co-Star Brian Cox’s Comments With Grace
Like how a rebellious son replies back to his father, Succession star Jeremy Strong gave a reply to his on-screen father Brian Cox after the latter publicly called Strong’s method acting approach “annoying”.
Given the criticism was already going in a rude tone from the start, almost anyone would get angry at what Cox had to say about his colleague’s working methods. But Strong wasn’t too worked up over his comments.
It’s only a coincidence that Cox’s interview came out on the same day that Strong appeared on the front cover of GQ Magazine. In the interview what came along with it, the 44-year-old actor said-
“Everyone’s entitled to have their feelings, I also think Brian Cox, for example, he’s earned the right to say whatever the fuck he wants. There was no need to address that or do damage control… I feel a lot of love for my siblings and my father on the show.”
Strong, however, admits to not liking Cox-
“And it is like a family in the sense that — and I’m sure they would say this, too — you don’t always like the people that you love. I do always respect them.”
This exchange of words would be quite worrying for fans of the TV series as the fourth season’s release date looms around the corner- could it possibly affect the series’ quality?
Succession is all set to premiere its fourth season on March 26, catch it on HBO Max.
