In 2018, actor John Krasinski directed his wife and Hollywood star Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi horror film that went on to gain critical acclaim for its writing, performances, and filmmaking. The plot revolves around a father played by Krasinski and a mother played by Emily Blunt who struggle to survive and raise their children in a world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with a heightened sense of hearing.
The film gained a lot of hype and recognition for its terrifying silences and that spoke louder than any words or jump scares. Emily Blunt whose performance was a highlight of the film, spoke about the impact the film’s trailer had on her family. The Oppenheimer star recalled an experience when her daughter was spooked by her presence on screen.
Emily Blunt’s Daughter Was Shaken By A Quiet Place Trailer
More often than not, the best and scariest horror films are the ones that do not rely on noisy interventions and jump scares, but the ones that send chills down the spine with their silent and internalized terror. A Quiet Place starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, was a film that succeeded in terrifying audiences in this manner. Blunt, in an interview, looked back on the film’s impact and narrated an incident involving her daughter who was completely creeped out by the trailer which aired during Super Bowl Half time.
“She just walks in there and she goes,’Oh, that’s you Mommy’ and then in the bit where I scream at the end of the trailer, you could see her brain exploding… And then she never talked about it again”
Blunt went on to add that both her daughters did not like seeing her in any character and were also not keen on watching her films including the family-friendly Mary Poppins.
Emily Blunt Is On A Break From Movies To Focus On Family
Behind the glitz and glamor, being a celebrity in Hollywood comes with its share of sacrifices, especially with regard to a star’s personal life. Emily Blunt, who was recently seen in Oppenheimer, has decided to prioritize herself and her family by taking a short break from her busy filming schedules. During promotions for Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus, Blunt got candid about facing mother’s guilt and recognizing the importance of spending time with her children during their formative years.
“It’s one of those things when people are like, ‘How do you balance it?’ I never feel like I’m doing it right, you know. But this year I’m not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is 9, so we’re in the last year of single digits. And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones,”
The Devil Wears Prada star said that the projects she worked on in 2022 were intense and time-consuming and impacted her children as well as herself. This caused her to step back and make the important decision to slow down not just for her family, but for her own well-being.
