But there was a time when the tables of fame were turned on Blanchett by none other than young school kids.
Remembering the hilarious predicament that she faced, the star explained that she was referred to as Kate Upton among her children’s school friends in Australia owing to her husband being Andrew Upton. This name though, became a point of confusion among the the kids as they assumed Blanchett to be the young and beautiful swimwear model from Australia also called Kate Upton, and were excited to meet her. Speaking of the comedy of errors that ensued, The Aviator star told The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert,
“And so, when I showed up on the first day to pick them up, I could see the utter disappointment on those 12-year-old boys’ faces. I thought, ‘What have I done?’ The disgust and disappointment was incredibly real! They were so looking forward to those play dates.”
Blanchett also recalled other priceless incidents involving her kids and their friends which included someone referring to her as having a close resemblance to a ‘young’ Cate Blanchett.
Tár Was A Memorable Experience For Cate Blanchett
In 2022, Cate Blanchett starred in the psychological drama Tár, a story about Lydia Tár, a world-renowned conductor facing accusations of misconduct. The film was an intense study of a complicated and complex character that Blanchett internalized and delivered with aplomb. Speaking to The Guardian about what attracted her to the role, the Oscar winner said,
“One of the dangerous and alarming things about the film is that it does not invite sympathy or offer easy solutions. No one is entirely good, and no one is entirely innocent. It’s a very nuanced examination of the corrupting nature of institutional power, but it’s also a very human film because at the centre you have someone in a state of existential crisis.”
Speaking of the divided opinions and many fiery talking points that the film brought up regarding identity crisis, cancel culture, and the manipulative nature of humans, Blanchett said that these discussions made the film relatable and worthy of being discussed.
