Jennifer Lawrence is one of the world’s most sought-after actresses of recent times. And rightfully so, given her track record of headlining one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, and winning an Oscar at just 22 years old.
In fact, she was so dedicated to her craft since a young age, that she even dropped out of middle school and moved to New York at just 14. Interestingly, though passionate as she may be, she was also extremely practical.
Even at such a young age, she understood the importance of having something to fall back on. As a result, she gave herself a backup plan that probably would have changed the course of the industry completely if it came to pass.
Jennifer Lawrence hatched a backup plan for dropping out of school
Everybody is pretty much aware of Jennifer Lawrence‘s story of leaving school at a young age to pursue acting. The Kentucky girl arrived in New York with her dreams fuelling her, but not much else in terms of substantiality. However, even then she was determined to make it. She noted in an interview while speaking on this topic,
“I cannot explain [how I felt.] I was out of the box, [thinking] I don’t have to be a teacher or a doctor or even be good at math,” Lawrence shared. “I’m good at this. I can memorize a script from the first time reading it through. I can stand on my mark.”
Thankfully, for her, she had the full support of her family in her unconventional career decision. She explained, “It was like, ‘Mom, you can’t take me away from this,’ and she said. ‘I know I can’t.'” Fortunately, things worked out well for her on that front as she debuted just a couple of years later with Garden Party.
However, drastic as it may seem, the Silver Linings Playbook star wasn’t completely unprepared or unbothered by her decision. Even at such a young age, she understood what her life could become if she gets stuck in a stagnant situation, with no telling what tomorrow will bring.
This is entirely fair, given the kind of profession acting is. As a result, she came up with a backup plan. She elaborated on this, saying,
“I committed to become an actress in five years. Otherwise, I would have been a nurse. Or a doctor.”
Fortunately for her, she pulled through and not even 5 years later acted in Winter’s Bone, which went on to earn her first Academy Awards Best Actress nomination.
Jennifer Lawrence hopes to become a housekeeper if she ever left acting
Although Lawrence has stated many times that acting is an essential part of her existence, she wasn’t afraid to take a step back when life required her to.
According to her, she felt like “everybody has gotten sick of me. I got sick of myself,” and as a result, she chose to protect her mental health by staying away from the industry for several years. However, she also noted,
“Acting is something that makes me happier than ever, so if I could do this for the rest of my life, I’d be the happiest person on the planet.”
Although her career worries are a thing of the past, The Hunger Games actress still can’t seem to help but think about a day when she might leave Hollywood completely.
And now, with a baby, it seems her perspective has drastically changed, as she claimed that she might become a housekeeper if a time truly came for her to leave her beloved profession.
However, there doesn’t seem to be any chance of that happening any time soon, as Jennifer Lawrence is all set to mark her comeback to the industry with No Hard Feelings next month.
No Hard Feelings releases on June 23rd, 2023.
