However, the struggle against this pervasive issue isn’t confined to just the high-ranking executives; even the actors are finding themselves entangled in its effects. Aaron Taylor-Johnson might’ve also experienced something similar.
In a recent Esquire profile conducted before any potential strike, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who initially rose to prominence within the framework of franchise films, courageously voiced his strong aversion to the blockbuster movies in which he was once a prominent figure.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson Turned Down Offers For Major Franchises
Evidently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson had received numerous lucrative propositions, including roles in major franchises that have yet to be disclosed, but he opted to decline all of them. By that point, he and his wife Sam were parents to two young children, and this responsibility took precedence above all else. He explained that his primary desire was to be with his children, and he grappled with the idea of being separated from them, pondering what that scenario might entail.
“I would say I was probably not ready to be in that position anyway—it was too early,” he continued. “But yeah, I also slightly didn’t give a f*ck.”
People might be curious, assuming Taylor-Johnson has transitioned to a series of specialized, independent-style films now. Well, to some extent, yes—his upcoming roles include the highly anticipated Nosferatu remake by Robert Eggers, as well as a project directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson centered around Rothko. However, the answer is mostly no. In fact, he’s positioned to take on a significant role in Sony’s Kraven The Hunter, an origin narrative for one of Spider-Man’s adversaries, now scheduled for a spring 2024 release due to the impact of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson Is Ready For Whatever Comes His Way
Aaron Taylor-Johnson appears to be preparing himself for whatever lies ahead, anticipating the conclusion of the era characterized by relaxed moments at home and the potential loss of any remaining anonymity he managed to retain by distancing himself from major intellectual properties. “I find myself in a moment where increased visibility is on the horizon,” he remarks.
“You can’t step into this role, you can’t step into what this franchise is, with a fucking half-assed, Let’s see how it goes attitude,” he says. “You have to be mentally prepared for what could come with that. I think I’m secure in my life now to know that I’m happy to deal with that. I don’t think I was probably ready to invite that into my life earlier on.”
While he’s explicitly discussing Kraven, there’s a lingering feeling that his words allude to something beyond that, something grander, potentially life-altering. The timing seems ripe to delicately probe once again if there are any other projects in the works beyond what has already been talked about.
