Jon Bernthal has been spotted in several iconic roles and projects throughout the years. From roles like The Punisher to The Walking Dead, it seems that the actor is slowly but surely making his way to the big leagues.
Thanks to his co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the actor found himself on the sets of the 2022 comedy series titled The Bear. Although appearing for only 3 episodes, it did give Bernthal the relevance that he needed to stay afloat in the Hollywood industry and it was all thanks to his The Punisher co-star!
Jon Bernthal’s Career Was Given A Push By His The Punisher Co-star
Bernthal was shot into the spotlight when he starred as the character of Frank Castle in Marvel’s The Punisher back in 2017. With people hailing him as one of the greater comic book-to-series adaptations, Bernthal received the love of the people and their support to continue to go further.
Starring alongside Bernthal was Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who portrayed the role of Frank Castle’s ally David Liberman or Micro. After the series ended, both actors went their separate ways as Moss-Bachrach was hired to portray the role of Jerimovich in the 2022 comedy series The Bear. It was the actor who suggested the name Jon Bernthal when they asked him whether he had any actor in mind.
“They were trying to cast that role Michael for a while. And they asked us, ‘Does anyone have any ideas?’ And they asked me and I was like, ‘I don’t think we should ever see him.’ Because when you talk about somebody, and hype them up so much, it’s always a letdown.”
Ebon Moss-Bachrach further continued,
“And then it did occur to me one day, and I was like, ‘Well, I do think Jon is such a, I don’t know, like, charismatic and hilarious, dude that, I was like, ‘he actually would be really great.’”
Although it was his The Punisher co-star who got Bernthal the role, Moss-Bachrach had nothing but praise for the actor. Stating that Bernthal looked like someone who was a pretty big movie star, Moss-Bachrach talked about the actor’s gravitas and what he brings to the screen.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach Loved Jon Bernthal In The Bear
With The Bear cast not having much-famed actors, the addition of Jon Bernthal was something that was much needed for the series. None was happier than Ebon Moss-Bachrach since he loved acting with his dear friend and the mythos that Bernthal brought with him.
“He brings with him obviously, he’s kind of like a movie star or whatever. So he does bring with him a little bit of that. You’ve seen him in past things, so he brings a kind of energy that you’ve seen him before. And I think that that helps with the sort of legend of and the mythos around him, you know? A little bit of like meta kind of casting or something.”
In the end, Bernthal appeared for a total of 3 episodes in The Bear. With rave reviews, The Bear received a whopping 8.4/10 on IMDB and a staggering 100% on Rotten Tomatoes! With 2 seasons to its name, The Bear is available to stream on Hulu.
