Christopher Nolan helmed some of the most critically-acclaimed films and box office hits of all time, such as Inception, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight. Most of his works lean toward the dark and gritty side of the story, combined with stunning cinematography and compelling scripts.
Many would assume that in his pastime he would be watching films of a similar kind, or that his favorites would be some mind-bending title that would inspire his next project, but it’s not – Nolan loves comedy films!
Christopher Nolan’s Favorite Movie Shocked Everyone Around Him
In a Zoom interview with USA Today, Tenet star John David Washington revealed Christopher Nolan’s secret:
“He can quote ‘Wayne’s World.’ You didn’t know that, did you?”
Washington was a fan of the comedy film Wayne’s World, and one time, he decided to utter the movie’s signature call-and-answer:
“I threw it out there before a take once, and he laughed and responded appropriately like, ‘Oh, so you know the movie well.’ And he does.”
But this was not the only movie that Nolan was incredibly familiar with. He revealed being a fan of the 2006 sports comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby:
“It must be the films I make. People are always shocked to find out that I would ever watch a comedy or that I’m a big fan of Talladega Nights, for example.”
The famed director frequently mentioned the movie in his interviews. It still shocks fans and even the hosts to discover he has a varied taste in films. In a phone interview with The Rich Eisen Show, Nolan was asked what his “remote drop” movie is, and he responded:
“There are so many… some are great comedies, too. I mean, Talladega Nights. I’m never gonna be able to switch that up.”
The host confirmed if Nolan’s favorite was The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and the director chimed in: “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” and they all broke into laughter.
