Two of Hollywood’s biggest names, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, have frequently been at the center of debates over who the best action star of their era was. Another generation of WWE champions turned Hollywood stars aka John Cena and rival Dwayne Johnson appear to have taken sides in the aforementioned ongoing debates as well. How, you ask?
Well, Stallone and Schwarzenegger, two legendary action stars who dominated the big screen for decades, have a dynamic that has consistently made headlines. And inevitably, their rivalry and friendship have resulted in comparisons of their respective on-and-off-screen achievements.
Now, it’s important to note that John Cena has often praised Schwarzenegger which makes his rivalry with Johnson all the more interesting since The Rock favors Stallone.
John Cena Once Posted A Throwback Picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger
It is no secret that the legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger enjoys wrestling. Thus, he also has close relationships with many WWE superstars and wrestling legends, including Dwayne Johnson, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena.
Meanwhile, Cena is renowned for being a social media celebrity who is active and connects with his followers right away. He has always had an interesting Instagram account that everyone enjoys following. His Instagram profile only features captionless photos of famous people, memes, or news items. Similarly, he once shared a photo of the Austrian-American actor, 76, in January 2020.
It was a black-and-white photograph of a fully groomed Austrian Oak wandering through Munich in swim trunks in 1969. Surprisingly, when Cena shared the image, a lot of fans initially had trouble identifying the seven-time Mr. Olympia.
It seems Cena has strong support and a liking for the former Governor of California.
Dwayne Johnson Supports Sylvester Stallone?
Dwayne Johnson has provided humorous insights into his adolescence and early wrestling career throughout his TV series, Young Rock.
In one of the episodes, Johnson, one of the most bankable actors in the world, paid tribute to two of the men who served as his role models. This revived a discussion that has been going on since the middle of the 1980s.
Of course, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are the two action movie icons we are referring to. In the clip, Johnson’s younger self (played by Uli Latukefu) proclaimed that Stallone is the greatest action movie hero ever made. But was countered by an equally persuasive argument for the merits of Schwarzenegger.
Johnson’s opinions leaned more toward Stallone in the Season 3 finale and praised the Rocky star’s professional achievements. He also stated in the post that he does not really have a favorite and that he thinks highly of both of them and admitted that they gave him a path to follow when he first transitioned from the WWE to Hollywood. He wrote on Instagram:
“Sly and Arnold were MY HEROES growing up and I will forever be GRATEFUL to them both for being so incredibly kind and supportive of me and my career when I first broke into Hollywood. I just got to be the lucky SOB they welcomed to stand on their shoulders.”
