Irish star Pierce Brosnan is undoubtedly a charismatic actor but as pain is embedded in the very human life, Brosnan had to undergo the tragic and heartbreaking pain as well. Brosnan’s love and marriage to Australian actress Cassandra Harris was put to an end by the cruelty of time.
The James Bond star has made his career and forged his Hollywood presence in his decade-spanning career as an actor. But behind the curtain of showbiz, the actor once led a devastated life after losing the woman he loved most. But another woman rescued the actor from the pothole of sorrow.
Pierce Brosnan’s Tragic Story
Pierce Brosnan has endured the most devastating tragedy of his life. His first wife Cassandra Harris was the love of his life, the duo got married in 1980 shortly after leaving drama school. They shared a son, Sean Brosnan, before Harris’ tragic and untimely death in 1991 at the age of 43 due to ovarian cancer. Brosnan also adopted Cassandra’s two children, Charlotte and Chris after their father’s death. Harris’ death broke the actor and he was devasted, mourning for a long time. “When your partner gets cancer, then life changes,” Pierce revealed once.
“Your timetable and reference for your normal routines and the way you view life, all this changes. Because you’re dealing with death. You’re dealing with the possibility of death and dying. And it was that way through the chemotherapy, through the first-look operation, the second look, the third look, the fourth look, the fifth look. Cassie was very positive about life. I mean, she had the most amazing energy and outlook on life. It was and is a terrible loss, and I see it reflected, from time to time, in my children,” Brosnan said recalling the demise of his first wife.
The Golden Eye actor, however, was later rescued from his grief by model-turned-journalist Keely Shaye Smith.
A Second Chance, A New Lifeline for Pierce Brosnan
After the death of his first wife, Brosnan saw Shaye Smith at a party in Mexico. After an accidental interview with Brosnan, the duo formed a connection and eventually started dating. “He was captivating,” Smith told People once.
“Tall, dark and handsome – everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to. He had this mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, ‘Wow! Wow!'”
She further said,
“I understand why women find him sexy, because he is an appealing man. He really likes and appreciates women.”
Earlier, Brosnan also mentioned how Smith had rescued the actor from depression and grief.
“Wherever I went in the world I missed her, and I’d send her tickets to come so we could be together. We just seemed to fit,” he said. “I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good.”
The couple tied the knot in 2001 after having their son Dylan in 1997, and then Paris in the same year they got married.
“I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn’t be able to live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak,” he told The Independent in 2014.
The actor is seriously in love with her for her passion, he even hit back at fat-shaming comments on his wife’s photo on Facebook which went viral revealing that he is in love with “every curve of her body” and he always seeks to be worthy of her love.
