Another day, another beloved Disney animated film will have a live-action remake. Fan castings and rumors about the upcoming movie have been circulating ever since it was revealed that Disney was planning a live-action remake of Tangled movie. There have been multiple rumors, and many people have supported the alleged casting of Zachary Levi and Florence Pugh for the lead roles of Flynn Rider and Rapunzel, respectively.
Florence Pugh, who starred in Oppenheimer, may end up becoming our next Rapunzel—at least, Disney hopes so. According to rumors, the studio is thinking about casting the 27-year-old English actress in the main role of its live-action remake. And following these rumors, now the Shazam! star, Zachary Levi recently reacted and even shared his opinions on this alleged casting.
Disney has put a lot of effort into remaking and adapting its beloved classic movies over the past few years. Now, it seems we are about to witness yet another fairytale remake, albeit one that may include a slight variation.
Florence Pugh Will Be The New Rapunzel?
The animated movie, which was released in 2010 and starred Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy as voice cast, became an instant hit, grossing $592 million at global box offices. The movie’s enduring success was sufficient to inspire a live-action remake of Tangled.
It was revealed last week that the studio, once the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over, will give top priority to the creation of a live-action Tangled adaptation. However, the news about who will play the captivating Princess Rapunzel with the long hair has fans the most excited.
Disney is reportedly thinking about casting Florence Pugh as Rapunzel in the upcoming live-action Tangled. Being one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses in recent years has helped Pugh’s popularity soar to new heights.
Her portrayal of Yelena Belova in the 2021 MCU film, Black Widow marked her previous work on a Disney production. She will also play the same character in the upcoming Thunderbolts film (2024) from Marvel.
Zachary Levi Reacted to Florence Pugh’s Rapunzel Rumors
Fan castings and rumors regarding the upcoming movie have been circulating ever since Disney announced its intention to make a live-action remake of Tangled movie. The casting of Zachary Levi and Florence Pugh as Flynn Rider and Rapunzel, respectively, has received a lot of support from fans. The Chuck actor recently addressed these rumors and shared his opinions on this fan casting.
Levi made a comment about Pugh allegedly being Disney’s top choice to play Rapunzel in their Tangled remake during a recent Fan Expo in Chicago.
The 42-year-old actor seemed enthusiastic about the idea of the actress joining the project, despite not disclosing any insider information about Disney’s Tangled plans. In a TikTok video that a fan posted, he said:
“There was this thing floating around the internet, I just saw it, somebody sent it to me, that Florence Pugh potentially might play the role of Rapunzel. And If Florence plays Rapunzel, what about me? Which would also be a trip because my real last name is Pugh, p-u-g-h, Zachary Levi Pugh, so you’d have [makes pew-pew noise] in Tangled. Come on!”
Well, Disney has not yet announced any official castings for the movie, despite the fact that it would be exciting to see if Pugh plays the lead in Tangled. Meanwhile, being the voice of the famous Disney’s Flynn Rider, Levi undoubtedly appears interested in playing the same part in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
Critics gave the 2010 musical fantasy comedy film, Tangled favorable reviews, praising its animation, writing, characters, and musical score. In addition, it received several nominations, including Best Original Song at the 83rd Academy Awards.
Tangled is available for streaming on Disney+.
