It is not surprising seeing actors involved in feuds whether on-screen or off-screen. When it comes to action-packed movies, most can be seen displaying their capabilities and strengths even behind the screens. So, was the case with Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine.
The two actors, each known for their versatility and endearing personality, starred together in the action-war-sports movie Escape To Victory and were involved in a skirmish behind the scenes, which left Stallone shell-shocked.
Sylvester Stallone Got His A** Kicked By Michael Caine
An unlikely movie, Escape To Victory, brought together a unique star cast while also blending sports, war, and action genres into an engaging and impressive storyline. Well, the storyline and the star cast weren’t the only things that were unlikely. Sylvester Stallone was involved in a clash with the Batman Begins actor Michael Caine behind the screens. And the clash resulted in Michael Caine being the unlikeliest of victors, given that he was 14 years older than the Rocky star.
Not only was it Michael Caine who did the honors of kicking Stallone’s butt, but the actor also had a tough time shooting with football legends who were part of the cast. Describing the experience, Stallone said,
“That was one of the low points of my life. What a butt-kicking I got! I still have a broken finger from trying to block a penalty by Pele”
The film, which also featured football legends like Bobby Moore and Osvaldo Ardilles, left Stallone with broken ribs, a broken finger (courtesy of Pele), and a dislocated shoulder among other minor injuries.
Sylvester Stallone Thought Football Was A Sissy Sport
Everything seems easy unless you actually try it. This could not have been more true than in the case of Sylvester Stallone, who thought Football was an easy deal. But boy was he wrong, for he soon discovered his ignorance would leave him with getting his a** kicked. Stallone also revealed that Escape To Victory was the hardest role he had ever trained for.
“I thought Rocky was tough, but I’ve never trained so hard. I thought soccer was a sissy sport until they kicked the ball into my stomach and I crossed the border into Austria with haematomas on both hips.”
The actor also elaborated that while shooting, he was even unable to follow the ball when the professionals came into the field. The movie was an eye-opening experience for him that made him respect the game as well as the players.
You can stream Escape To Victory on HBO Max.
