Hollywood is currently back to testing new ideas to see what works and what doesn’t. In case you were unaware, Zachary Levi is known for never sugarcoating his statements. Most recently, he stirred up controversy by calling the ongoing Hollywood strikes “dumb” while speaking about them at Manchester Comic-Con in the UK earlier this month. This is because he was prohibited from discussing any of his prior film or television projects.
The backlash against Zachary Levi was so intense that he received criticism from social media users, who were in favor of the strikes. However, it appears that his recent remarks at the Chicago Fan Expo were well-received by attendees.
Levi recently said on a panel that the majority of the content produced in Hollwyood is garbage. Finally, he gave the audience members advice about making wise decisions.
Zachary Levi Called Out Hollywood For Producing ‘Garbage’
Zachary Levi is now criticizing the current state of Hollywood’s film industry, a week after calling the SAG-AFTRA strike’s rules “dumb”.
He appeared on stage at a fan convention over the weekend, but this time he was unable to discuss the current or upcoming films he is working on. He seemed to focus on the movies that are currently available in theaters and online, saying that many of them are “garbage”.
Now, Levi said to fans on Saturday at the Chicago Fan Expo that he believes the majority of the “content” produced by the entertainment industry is of poor quality and those responsible for creating it simply do not care about doing so.
However, he stopped short of naming any particular movies.
“I personally feel like the amount of content that comes out of Hollywood that is garbage —they don’t care enough to actually make it great for you guys. They don’t.”
The 42-year-old actor further argued:
“How many times do you watch a trailer and go, ‘Oh my god, this looks so cool!’ Then you go to the movie and it’s like, ‘This is what I get?’ They know that once you’ve already bought the ticket and you’re in the seat, they’ve got your money. And the only way for us to change any of it is to not go to the garbage. We have to actively not choose the garbage. It’ll help. It’ll help a lot.”

Earlier this month, Zachary Levi complained that the SAG-AFTRA strike’s ban on mentioning prior work was “dumb”. At Manchester Comic-Con, which was held in the UK, he spoke in length about how he was unable to discuss his work on prior projects.
“I’m not allowed to talk about … this is so dumb. I’m not allowed to talk about any of my previous work. I’m not allowed to talk about movies that I may be a superhero in. I’m not allowed to talk about TV shows that I may have been a nerd who worked at a Best Buy. I’m not allowed to talk about any animated princess movies that I was fantastic in — as the best prince ever! I’m not allowed to talk about those things.”
Following the online spread of those remarks, the Spiral actor released a statement in which he reaffirmed his full support for the unions and the strikes. In his statement, he said:
“It’s come to my attention that an offhand remark I made in jest last weekend is being taken out of context. So let me be very clear. I fully support my union, the WGA, and the strike. I remain an outspoken critic of the exploitative system that us artists are subject to work in since I started my journey in this business 25 years ago. This strike is necessary to protect ourselves, our writers, and all those working in production who make the industry move.”
We last saw him in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which was released earlier this year. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, with some claiming it was inferior to the first one (Shazam!). Despite a $125 million production budget, it failed miserably at the box office, grossing $134 million globally.
Well, his upcoming film, Spy Kids: Armageddon, is a reboot of the Spy Kids series and will be made available on Netflix on September 22, 2023.
