He is also known for his role as Mr. Han in the 2010 widely acclaimed film, The Karate Kid alongside Jaden Smith, who portrayed Dre Parker in the film. While many are hoping to see the former again in its sequel, Cobra Kai showrunners have shared the possibilities of Chan’s appearance in the film.
Jackie Chan Won’t Return to The Karate Kid 2!
After the success of Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan-led 2010 film, The Karate Kid, fans saw the franchise blooming with the television series, Cobra Kai. The series starred Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who reprise their roles from the original The Karate Kid trilogy.
While fans are hoping for Chan to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel, the Netflix series showrunners have ruled out the possibility. Regarding the latter’s appearance in the Next Karate Kid, the showrunners shared,
“Yes, we’ve ruled that out completely. Jackie Chan is mentioned in season 1 of the show as a human, so I think in our world, Jackie Chan is an actor and a performer. If the characters on our show have seen a movie called The Karate Kid, they’ve seen that one.”
From the executives’ point of view, his presence in the series is only shown as a character, not a real-life character. As it has already been shared that the sequel to the $359M Jaden Smith Movie will be a part of the Miyagi-Verse, Chan reprising the role of Mr. Han would be less likely a case.
The Karate Kid 2 is Expected to Release in 2024
Since the revival of The Karate Kid film series in 2010 starring Will Smith’s son, fans are only keeping up with the franchise through the Cobra Kai series. However, Sony’s Columbia Pictures has already given a green light to the new Karate Kid film which is expected to release next year.
While the filmmakers, writers, plot, and other significant details are still under wraps, they have announced that the film is going to be “the return to the original Karate Kid franchise.”
The Next Karate Kid aligns with the timeline of Cobra Kai which is a sequel to the Karate Kid trilogy, informally dubbed the Miyagi-Verse. While the Netflix series continues to become fans’ popular, it is going to conclude next year. Meanwhile, The Next Karate Kid is expected to release on June 7, 2024.
