The Blind Side was unquestionably one of the biggest fan-favorites of all time in terms of real-life-based movies. But the Sandra Bullock starrer has been facing much backlash after the story’s lead character, Michael Oher’s startling revelation about the Tuohy family.
However, while Oher’s allegations are seemingly disrupting the family’s, the film’s as well as its cast’s reputations, The Blind Side actor Quinton Aaron, who portrayed the character of the NFL star on the big screen, has stepped up to defend the movie too after defending Bullock over the backlash faced by her.
The Blind Side Star Quinton Aaron Defends Movie After Michael Oher’s Startling Allegations
More than a decade after the release of the real-life-story-based movie The Blind Side, NFL star Michael Oher recently stepped up to reveal that the Tuohy family had gotten a conservatorship form filled out by him when he was 18 instead of adoption papers. He further alleged the family had done everything for him right from the beginning just to wrongfully acquire profits from the film.
But while the NFL star’s allegations have seemingly affected both the movie and its cast as well as the Tuohy family’s reputation negatively, The Blind Side star Quinton Aaron, who played Oher’s character in the movie, spoke out to defend the movie. When asked recently in an interview if Oher’s recent revelations have changed his feelings toward the film, he said,
“No, it doesn’t, because I feel like in the movie, not all facts are gonna be… not all of the story is gonna be a hundred percent [true] anyway. We’re in the business of entertaining, and sometimes, there’s certain liberties that are taken from either the writer or producer or the creator[’s] standpoint to make the film [appealing] to a certain audience. And I think in doing so, they successfully put out something that has motivated an entire generation of people to do good.”
He also emphasized the point that the movie was for entertainment and that in its due course, it also changed several people’s lives in a positive way.
Quinton Aaron Stood Up For Co-Star Sandra Bullock As She Faced Backlash Over The Blind Side
With Michael Oher’s startling revelations, The Blind Side actress Sandra Bullock, too, found herself trapped in a circle of controversies and backlash, with some corners of the internet even demanding she return her one and only Oscar that she won for her outstanding performance in the movie.
What’s worse is that this backlash has been circulating right at the same time that Bullock is grieving over her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who recently passed away on August 5. Seeing his co-star in a tough situation, Quinton Aaron didn’t keep quiet and stepped up to defend the actress in her stead. He said,
“I really feel like we live in a society today where people are so hellbent on pointing blame on people. To make a statement like that doesn’t make any sense. Sandra Bullock didn’t have anything to do with the real story that we’re reading as of right now. She just suffered a loss and everything, so I’m pretty sure she’s probably trying to stay out of the [spotlight] and just handle her situation as best she knows how. I heard some pretty disturbing things people were saying about her, and I’m not behind that. Leave her alone. Don’t come for my mama. I’m six-foot-eight, 400-plus pounds, and you don’t want those problems.”
Although Sean Tuohy has denied the allegations claiming that the film’s earnings were equally distributed among everyone in the family including Oher, the final verdict over the NFL star seeking the conservatorship to be revoked and asking for a fair share of the reported profits is yet to be delivered.
