The adult animation sitcom Rick and Morty by writer Justin Roiland has attracted a large audience. The six popular seasons of the show, which follows the cosmic exploits of the drunken psychopath Rick and his naive grandson Morty, are now complete.
Roliand became well-known thanks to the show’s inventive scripting and character sketches. But the director suffered greatly after he was accused of domestic violence and assault by an unidentified accuser in 2020. However, the current producer of the series has claimed that the show will not suffer much though Roiland will be making his exit prior to season seven.
Rick and Morty Will Not Suffer Post-Justin Roiland Exit
The animated sci-fi sitcom is renowned for its original humor, complex stories, and distinctive animation design. The program, which was co-created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, follows reclusive scientist Rick Sanchez and his timid grandson Morty Smith on interdimensional journeys and frequently explores existential and philosophical issues.
The series has a devoted following thanks to its clever banter, pop culture allusions, and examination of challenging ideas. It has won praise from critics and established itself as a cultural phenomenon, igniting debates about reality’s nature, ethics, and science. But recently, the show has suffered quite a bit of backlash due to Roilands abuse allegations.
But the current producer of the show, Steve Levy shared during an interview with Los Angeles Times that the show will not hold back anymore and will continue with the production and release of its seventh season. Furthermore, he has claimed that the upcoming season will be one of the best and most entertaining ones out of the lot.
“We’re not going to let one person drag down all of our hard work. This show is created by this team; this family of incredibly hardworking people, and we are going to push through and show the world that we aren’t going to miss a beat.
The work that we’re doing across the board has only gotten better. When the new season comes out, we’ll focus on how amazing it all turned out. We hope the fans will realize that this is the same old show, maybe even better!”
However, no matter how much better the new season might be, Roiland’s activities left a huge scar on the show, its fans, and its employees. Furthermore, his exit resulted in the hiring of a new voice actor in a very short time which may have caused a hustle as the show is running behind schedule. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike could cause the release date of Rick and Morty season seven to be further postponed until 2024.
The Abuse Allegations Against Justin Roiland
The co-creator of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland, was accused of domestic abuse and sexual misconduct in 2020 and 2022. He voluntarily resigned as CEO of Squanch Games and was let go from Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, and Koala Man. Even though the allegations of domestic assault were dropped in 2023 due to insufficient evidence, Roiland’s reputation was damaged.
According to the accusations made against Roiland, he was accused of abusing and imprisoning his ex-girlfriend, sending unwanted explicit texts to young girls, and acting inappropriately with female co-workers. Roiland vehemently rejected all of the accusations, yet he was still demoted from his high-profile enterprises and stripped of his CEO title. Roiland’s reputation was not cleared by the rejection of the domestic violence accusations in 2023, and he is still a contentious figure.
Roiland is not presently engaged in any significant initiatives, and it is unknown what he has planned for the future. Since 2022, he has not participated in any new projects and has not made any public declarations about his future ambitions.
