The American epic space opera, Star Wars became the highest-grossing franchise, forging a special bond in the hearts of the sci-fi audiences. However, apart from the bond the series created with the viewers, it was the deep connections among the actors that require a special mention. And the most remarkable one of all was the dynamic between Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher who portrayed the roles of the Skywalker twins Luke and Leia.
And this is especially because, despite their on-screen sibling relationship, Hamill once confessed to having romantic feelings for Fisher.
Mark Hamill confessed his ‘love’ for Carrie Fisher
After the huge success of the 1977 Star Wars, the main trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford developed a special relationship, turning them into an inseparable unit. While Fisher opened up about her affair with Ford, it was Hamill’s candid admission about having feelings for Fisher that caught the attention of many.
Continuing with their exceptional friendship till Fisher’s death in 2016, Hamill admitted that he did develop a love for Fisher over time. He said,
“We ran the gamut over the years, where we were in love with each other, where we hated each other’s guts,” said Hamill. “‘I’m not speaking to you. You’re such a judgmental, royal brat!’ We went through it all. It’s like we were a family. A part of me did fall in love with her. I think every guy… she had you under her spell.”
While the fact that Hamill developed romantic feelings for his on-screen sister and off-screen friend might surprise many what’s important to note is that his confession highlighted a pattern in his career. Interestingly, Fisher isn’t the only on-screen sister Hamill fell for.

When Mark Hamill fell for another on-screen sister who made him vow never to date an actor
Prior to his revelation about Fisher, Hamill was romantically involved with actress Anne Wyndham who also portrayed the role of his on-screen sister in General Hospital. But by the time, Hamill landed the role of Luke Skywalker, he had already vowed never to date an actor again owing to the competition in celebrity relationships.
“You become competitive in a way, which is crazy, because I’m not going to take parts away from her, and vice versa. But I thought, ‘Well, she’s not the one because I do want to have a family. And I’m not going to ask her to give up a career to raise the kids. And I’ll know when it’s right, I’ll find the right one.’ And luckily for me, I did.”
In December 1978, Hamilltied the knot with dental hygienist Marlious York amidst his Star Wars fame craze. The couple are parents to three children, two sons and a daughter born between 1979-1988.
