Steve Carell’s The Office was a series that was full of scenes that were improvised. It is not unusual for sitcoms to see improvisation and some of these scenes become the highlight of the entire series. The iconic sitcom had a lot of sequences that fans can never forget and a lot of them have Michael Scott in the centre of them. The series was heavily loved and could easily be classified as a comfort show.
There were quite a few scenes that also seemed to be the epitome of cringe. One particular scene that was engraved into the fans’ minds because of its cringe just so happened to be improvised. Carell often knows exactly what to do to make them laugh and he was thoroughly loved on the set of the show.
The Office‘s Most Awkward Scene
Oscar Nuñez and Steve Carell were two actors whose characters learned to understand each other throughout the course of The Office. One episode, in particular, had both of them share a rather ‘intimate’ moment, one which later pushed Oscar away from working at Dunder Mifflin. The scene took place in the third season of the show, ‘Gay Witch Hunt.’ The episode travailed around Oscar confronting Michael about some of his jokes being rather offensive while also coming out of the closet.
Throughout the course of the episode, Michael tries his best to make sure his image is not of someone who is conservative or closed off. He tries his best to do everything that could make Oscar comfortable. The episode features what can easily be titled one of the most awkward scenes on television. Steve Carell Wasn’t Supposed To Kiss Oscar Nuñez
Oscar Nuñez confirmed that the scene was not supposed to be the way it was executed. Out of the many takes they had done, the one that was used was improvised. While Nuñez was filming it with Steve Carell, he could tell that something was different. Michael was only supposed to hug his co-worker and that is exactly what the actor was expecting.
“We were just supposed to hug,” Nuñez added. “And he kept hugging me. And that particular take he came in really close, and I’m like, ‘Where is he going with this?’ Oh, dear, yes, here we go.”
It was only supposed to be just a hug, but Steve Carell went for it and kissed him instead. The actor had not expected it at all. Carell improvised the entire scene and he expected someone to break character and laugh uncontrollably.
