“We were fighting to keep the industry alive”: Tom Cruise’s On Set Outburst Had His Director Panicking Hard, Breathed A Sigh Of Relief After Help Came From Batman Actor

Tom Cruise is known for his deep regard for the film industry. Known for delivering action-packed movies, the star is regarded as the hero of the film industry after the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick last year. Despite his successful feat, he was under fire when a leaked clip went viral where he can be heard berating crew members on the set of the recently released Mission: Impossible.

In the leaked audio, Tom Cruise could be heard yelling and threatening two crew members for apparently being too close and not following the Covid-19 protocols despite repeated reminders. The Mission: Impossible star also stated,

“They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf***ers! I don’t ever want to see it again… You can tell it to the people who are losing their f***ing homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education.  That’s what I sleep with every night — the future of this f***ing industry!”

While everyone called out Cruise for his harsh words, George Clooney was quick to jump to his defense. In an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he stated,

“Well, he didn’t overreact, because it is a problem… You do have a responsibility for everybody else, and he’s absolutely right about that, and if the production goes down a lot of people lose their jobs. You know, people have to understand that and they have to be responsible.”

While most people still criticized Tom Cruise for the way he handled the situation, his outburst was seen as legitimate by many fans and industry people who were first-hand experiencing the aftermath of the Covid-19 shutdowns.

Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One director Christopher McQuarrie, was the subject of fan’s anger as well when the leaked audio clipping went viral. However, like Clooney, some people came forward to support Cruise. Recently, the MI director came forward and expressed that he was grateful for the people who supported them during the difficult times,

“Obviously, we’re grateful that people took it the way that it was intended. We were fighting to keep the industry alive, we were fighting to keep people employed, we were fighting for the studio, we were fighting for cinemas, and we still are. We’re still there doing that. I’m just glad people understood the intention behind it.”

Well, in the wake of the pandemic, making the film was certainly a ‘mission: impossible’, and seeing that it was a hard and uncertain time, Tom Cruise’s outburst was justified by the majority.

Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One is in theatres now.
