The Geoff Johns-produced CW’s Arrowverse show, Stargirl, has come to its inevitable end as the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned franchise keeps shortening its canon of television series. The DC TV era is being slowly reduced to ashes and dust with most of its proprietary and long-standing earners now retired or in limbo. With the Arrowverse practically non-existent, Stargirl becomes next in line to be axed as Nexstar begins its tyrannical take-over.

The CW’s Stargirl Canceled After 3 Seasons
The third-time charm theory hits differently if your audience consists of The CW’s latest young adult audience and the Brec Bassinger fanbase. The CW was once a haven equal to none when it came to the television subgenre of DC’s CBM franchise. Major characters with grit, mettle, substance, and delectable arcs brought millions of happy followers and carefully built up a steady fandom invested in the immersive shows. But the quality of the said shows has plunged drastically in the last couple of years, adding fuel to the fire lit by Nexstar’s acquisition of The CW.
Amid the latest slew of cancellations lies Stargirl which has been canceled after a 3 season run. With Brec Bassinger in the lead, the show was not only extremely likable but one of the highest rated on Rotten Tomatoes (94%), superbly crafted with humor and rich character backstories, and most of all, a Justice Society comic which makes this Arrowverse show one of the first to properly explore the JSA trajectory. Unfortunately, the JSA is not impressive enough for Nexstar to reconsider its executive decision.
Geoff Johns Assures Fans a Closure to the Stargirl Story
Producer and showrunner, Geoff Johns, known for his longtime association with The CW and for bringing series like The Flash, Doom Patrol, Titans, Batwoman, and Superman & Lois is also the creator, producer, and showrunner for Stargirl. The series’s cancellation which has struck a chord with the fandom was lately addressed by Johns who revealed that despite the various open plotlines, the fans will receive a sense of closure by the end of Stargirl‘s Season 3, i.e. episode 13.
“Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons. With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of Stargirl yet, with complete creative closure. The cast and crew are extraordinary, and I’d like to thank them for helping me bring this series to life.
Brec embodied Courtney in every way possible — with grace, strength and humor — exceeding my wildest expectations. I am grateful to WBTV and The CW for giving us a home to tell this story and to honor my beloved late sister, and I’m beyond thankful to the press and fans who have always championed us for three amazing seasons. Most series never get this far. We couldn’t be more proud of our show and the fan community it’s built!”

It was also revealed in the process that the Nexstar execs who made the final call had given an early courtesy call about the show’s possible demise, allowing the writers to give the series a proper and honorable ending, unlike Legends of Tomorrow‘s horrible cliffhanger. The Flash is currently headed for Season 9 on The CW while Superman & Lois is fortunately in the network’s good favors.
Stargirl Season 3 episode 13 will air on The CW on December 7, 2022.
