Hugh Jackman is one of the most talented and bonafide actors in Hollywood. Jackman has continued to prove why he remains on top of the echelons of stars in the film industry by showcasing his unmatched cinematic skills and craft. The actor has starred in dozens of epic action-packed blockbusters and big-budget movies that have helped him cement his top place in showbiz.
In 2011, he appeared in Shawn Levy-directed film Real Steel, playing the role of Charlie Kenton, a former boxer. The movie received an overwhelming response from the audience upon its release. However, just like fans of this project, Jackman’s co-star Anthony Mackie once admitted that he wanted to reunite with the actor for a sequel and had been pushing the director for the same.
Anthony Mackie Wants a Sequel to Hugh Jackman-led Film Real Steel
Anthony Mackie shared the silver screen with Hollywood stalwart Hugh Jackman for their shared 2011 sci-fi film Real Steal. The movie has an intriguing plot and believable characters. Mackie played the role of Finn, a friend of former boxer Charlie Kenton, played by Jackman.
The project received an unbelievable response from the audience and critics alike, and years later, fans still have been contemplating a follow-up sequel to this iconic movie. In an interview with Inverse, his co-star Mackie opened up about how he had been pushing the director for a sequel and called him once or twice a year for the same. He told the outlet,
“It was supposed to be a trilogy. It was supposed to be three or four movies together.”
In 2021, the actor reunited with the film cast for the 10th anniversary of this project and shared with Entertainment Weekly how he wanted to reunite for a sequel, saying,
“I think the possibilities are endless. I always thought about the idea of going to the underground world and seeing what the reality is. The underground boxing circuit is so different than that last fight [the finale League match in the movie] with all the glitz and the glam and the polish. I feel like you can do a Mad Max meets Real Steel, and I could be Tina Turner.”
It is uncertain if there will be a sequel in the future. Nevertheless, without a doubt, Hugh Jackman and his co-stars delivered power-packed performances in the titular movie, earning critical acclaim.

Shawn Levy Reveals Fans Still Ask Him if There Will Be a Sequel in the Future
As reported by JoBlo in 2021, during a press junket for his action comedy film Free Guy, director Shawn Levy told the outlet how, years later, fans still ask him if he will make a sequel to his 2011 directorial film Real Steel. Levy shared,
“You know, it’s amazing and so awesome to Hugh and me. We literally spoke about this yesterday. We’re coming up on ten years on Real Steel, and still not a week goes by where I get asked at least once – and usually more than once – in real life, or an interview, or on social media, “Sequel? sequel?” I’ve gotten so used to answering that question that now I find myself with Hugh saying, “Well, should we just do it?” We love that movie as much as our fans love that movie. So we’ll see about that.”
The titular film boasts a stellar cast ensemble featuring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Olga Fonda, Karl Yune, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, and James Rebhorn. The movie received positive reviews from critics and grossed $299 million at the global box office.
Real Steal is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
