From the filmmaker who was involved in crafting the Zendaya-led Euphoria, his recent creation has created a substantial buzz on the internet but not for the right reasons. Even before The Idol‘s release, starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, controversies pounded the show, as many claimed that the Depp-led series is nothing more than a torture p*rn.
But these criticisms against the show have certainly worked in The Idol‘s favor for now, as the show’s premiere has pulled in some huge numbers, even bigger than some of HBO’s biggest releases.
Zendaya fans blast Lily-Rose Depp’s The Idol as it surpasses Euphoria
Like Velma, Lily-Rose Depp’s The Idol is also making headlines for the wrong reasons, but just like the questionable Scooby-Doo spin-off, it has been able to pull in some big numbers. According to reports, the premiere of the show has surpassed 3.6M viewers in its first week, beating some of HBO’s biggest hits, including Euphoria‘s 3.3M in the same period. But unlike Euphoria, which deals with some heavy topics and despite the controversies, it has held its ground. Thanks to the actors’ performances and the direction, the Depp-led show lacks these features till now.
And considering the show was able to pull greater numbers than Euphoria with its premiere, fans of the Zendaya-led show haven’t backed away from expressing their distaste for the situation.
But among all the sequences from this new HBO show, one of its s*x sequences has left fans disturbed and it didn’t help to limit the criticisms against Sam Levinson’s new creation.
The controversial scene from The Idol has left fans in horror
Following the early reports hovering over the internet regarding the Lily-Rose Depp-led show, many feared that the series might end up becoming a twisted version of Euphoria, excluding its great qualities. And the disturbing s*x sequence in the second episode of The Idol, accompanied by some cringeworthy acting doesn’t help in strengthening its case.
The scene involves The Weeknd’s character ordering Depp’s Jocelyn to fulfill his s*xual desires, where his character at one point says, ”F***in’ stretch that tiny, little p****.” So it’s reasonable to see why fans aren’t optimistic about the show’s quality moving forward, as it doesn’t appear to get better anytime soon.
Even though the show managed to pull some big numbers with its premiere, it’s unlikely that it will end up surpassing Euphoria, as fans believe that the show will tank as it keeps on moving forward.
The Idol is available to stream on Max.
