Pirates of the Caribbean has been long dead ever since Johnny Depp’s controversial lawsuit. The five-film series is a favorite of many, Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow even more so. While fans far and wide eagerly wait for a potential update about the film, there have been no official statements from Disney so far.
But recently Disney’s Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey, spoke up about the sixth installment of the series in work. He even talked about Johnny Depp’s potential return to his most iconic role.
Sean Bailey On Upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean
Sean Bailey in an interview with New York Times, opened up about the sixth installment to the blockbuster series. Deeming it a priority since it has been hanging by a thread for far too long, Bailey announced that a storyline has already been decided which will do justice to the earlier five Pirates of the Caribbean films.
“We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say.”
How good the storyline is or whether it would be honoring the earlier films, we don’t know for sure. But the one thing we all want to know is whether Johnny Depp will be reprising his most renowned role or not. So, when asked the inevitable question about whether Depp would be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the future, Bailey quickly said,
“Noncommittal at this point.”
Johnny Depp returns to the big screens after his lawsuit with Captain Jack Sparrow would be as iconic as it can get. While Sean Bailey has seemingly kept options open, it would be interesting to see what this sixth installment will have in store for the fans.
Johnny Depp To Return As Jack Sparrow? Not Likely
Disney’s Sean Bailey has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in the world with a really interesting storyline. But with the movie in the works, it seems highly unlikely that Johnny Depp would come back as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Despite Bailey’s comments there seems to be a very less chance that Johnny Depp would agree to return in a Disney film. During his very publicized lawsuit with his ex-wife Amber Heard, he had spoken up about how Disney had hurt him by dropping him from the popular franchise. He declared last year that he had been betrayed by Disney, and would never be returning in any other Pirates movie, even making similar claims at the recently held Cannes Film Festival this year.
So, according to past and present interviews, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of the Caribbean 6 seems highly unlikely.
