“We hate this sh*t, we hate it”: Andrew Garfield Tortured Himself Thinking He Ruined His $224 Million Hit Movie

Andrew Garfield has unleashed some spectacular characters in the Hollywood industry which has proven his craft. Given that he always put in great efforts to bring out the best of his character, he has been praised by many including his fans. However, he is not much into acknowledging his skills which once made him quite conscious.

Back in 2010, the actor gained international recognition with his role as Eduardo Saverin in the film, The Social Network. However, he was not much of a fan of his acting in this particular film.

Back in an interview with the TotalFilm via GamesRadar, Andrew Garfield reflected on his time working in The Social Network. The film revolves around the birth and growth of Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook and the rocky relationships the founders were engaged in while developing the platform.

Initially, the former was asked to audition for Zuckerberg’s role however film director, David Fincher felt he was better suited for Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of the platform.

When he watched the film’s final cut, he was horrified by his performance. He mentioned that he had difficulty to appreciate his role. He shared,

“I’m very rarely satisfied with how something turns out. I suffer from that kind of queer, divine dissatisfaction that most creative people have. I remember watching The Social Network for the first time, and me and Jesse were like, ‘Oh, we hate this shit. We hate it.'”

Despite his staggering self-doubt, many knew that his talent was much more than he thought.

However, everyone else knew that he was in the wrong.

“Everyone around us was going, “What the f–k is wrong with you? It’s incredible.'”

He mentioned that he and his co-star, Jesse Eisenberg thought that they have ruined the performances.

We were like, ‘No. I ruined it. They should have cast someone else.’ There’s a healthy version of that, which is the growing down thing. But then sometimes it turns into an indulgence.”

In a 2010 interview, the film director praised his acting skills stating,

“I met with him and thought, ‘He’s great, he’s obviously a very skilled actor and kind of an amazing presence. He has such incredible emotional access to his kind of core humanity that I was like, ‘Why would we waste an actor like this on the part of the guy [who seems like he has] Asperger’s? I’m trying to cast somebody who doesn’t have this access.’”

The film was a critical and commercial success with the film grossing $224 million. The film was even nominated for 8 Oscars and won 3 of them.
