She played the role of Ginger McKenna, the wife of Robert De Niro, who played the character of Sam Ace Rothstein, a sports handicapper and Mafia associate. Both stars did a phenomenal job and received praise from the audience.

Sharon Stone Reveals What Inspired Her to Play the Role of Ginger McKenna

In a candid interview with The Guardian, Sharon Stone shared that people close to her urged her not to accept the tortures role in the movie, recalling,

“This woman is so unsympathetic. She ties her kid to the bed, gets loaded, and does coke. Sharon, we don’t think you should go there.’”

Despite being told to reject the film, which not only earned her critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination, the actress found this to be the perfect opportunity to depict this challenging character. She explained:

 “I think for a long time, people just did not know what to do with me. I looked like a Barbie doll, and then I had this voice like I spent my life in a bar, and I said things that were alarming and had ideas that didn’t make sense. I finally got together with Marty [Scorsese] and Bob [De Niro], and they were like, ‘Give it all to us, baby, just let her rip if you’ve got it, we want it, let’s see what you can do.'”

Martin Scorsese-directed Casino stars Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, Joe Pesci, Don Rickles, Kevin Pollak, and James Woods. The film earned positive reviews and helped Stone cement her career and position in the industry.
