“We don’t have f*cking pirates”: Seth Rogen Embraced Himself to Get Crushed by Johnny Depp and Andrew Garfield at Box Office Before Release of His $219 Million Hit Movie

Seth Rogen Embraced Himself to Get Crushed by Johnny Depp and Andrew Garfield at Box Office Before Release of His $219 Million Hit Movie

Seth Rogen is a man of many talents. Known for his contagious laugh, his love of cannabis, and his cool pottery skills (making “Gloopy” ashtrays), the Emmy-nominated actor has impressed us with his comedic talents.

Rogen’s acting skills are not only limited to the comedy genre. By playing Steve Wozniak to the carpenter who stole Pam Anderson’s sex tape, the 40-year-old comedy legend also proved his serious acting chops. Besides acting, he is a talented voice artist, screenwriter, and director who has directed movies like The Interview, This Is The End, and Dumpster Diving

However, his talents don’t extend beyond the powers of prediction because initially, Rogen believed that his 2007 rom-com Knocked Up (one of the biggest comedy movies of his career) was bound to fail.

Why Seth Rogen Believed Knocked Up Would Fail?

While Seth Rogen has made plenty of big comedy hits like Superbad, Step Brothers, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, his movie Knocked Up remains one of his most commercially successful films. Released in 2007, Knocked Up sees Rogen star opposite Katherine Heigl as the pair slowly become a couple after Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) gets pregnant (after a one-night stand).

When Knocked Up was released, it was a smash hit, which was entirely contrary to Rogen’s expectations. Speaking to EW in 2007, Rogen said the movie would not be a big breakout hit.

“I don’t think it’s possible. There are too many other movies coming out. I mean, Knocked Up’s good, but we don’t have, like, f***ing pirates and people swinging from webs.”

Here he referred to the fact that Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 were both released in a similar period, and these big blockbusters might dash Knocked Up into pieces.

While Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 were both huge box-office hits, that didn’t stifle the success of Knocked Up. Rogen’s movie did well at the box office and made over $200 million, even beating Superbad. After all, Seth Rogen’s guesses about its success were off.

Knocked Up is a hilarious comedy and a charming romance. People love it because of its funny take on the situation. The movie is about rising journalist Alison Scott (played by Katherine Heigl), whose life takes a turn when she becomes pregnant after a one-night stand with Ben Stone (played by Seth Rogen), who’s not a responsible guy. Rather than raising a baby all on her own, Alison gives Stone a shot to show he can be a father material. But, he is unsure if he’s ready to be a parent, making both wonder if they’re right for each other in the long run.

Knocked Up can be watched on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix.
