“We can bring him back into the series”: Transformers 7 Producer Wants John Cena Back in $468M Bumblebee Sequel?

Transformers 7 Producer Wants John Cena Back in $468M Bumblebee Sequel?

One of John Cena’s most unexpected career moves was restricting himself to only being a part-time wrestler. It is true that he has created a clear path to becoming the GOAT in WWE, starting with the matches and ending with the titles. As a result, fans still regard him as one of the best in the ring, despite him no longer working as a full-time wrestler.

Instead, the 46-year-old is now a movie star, as a result of several prominent roles in important Hollywood productions.

Well, you might not remember Cena’s part in Bumblebee, but G.I. Joe film series producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, surely does. He made a reference to it while talking about the future of the Transformers series.

Cena isn’t in the latest release, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, despite playing a significant role in Bumblebee, but Bonaventura is hoping for the actor’s return.

Why Does The Future of ‌Transformers Depend on John Cena’s Return?

Lorenzo di Bonaventura discussed John Cena‘s Bumblebee character during an interview with Screen Rant at the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts premiere. In addition to refuting ‌fan theory, di Bonaventura talked openly about the actor’s absence from and potential return to the Transformers franchise in Rise of the Beasts.

Here is what the producer said:

“I can deny that [Cena’s character in Bumblebee is Duke from G.I. Joe], but I could see why you’d feel that because he does have some of that energy if you would. I’d love to work with John again. He’s fantastic, and hopefully, we can bring him back into the series.”

It makes sense that Cena’s character is missing from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts because the new film’s story takes place so long ago and in a different place than the one from its predecessor.

The other significant obstacle to his return was his already hectic schedule. Some of them included work on the political thriller, The Independent, the DC Extended Universe series, Peacemaker, and the recently released, Fast X.

Transformers 7 Producer Hopes To Bring John Cena Back

While John Cena’s character may not appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the hint that Lorenzo di Bonaventura wants to bring him back is actually more significant than some may realize.

According to the series’ chronology, Bumblebee remains the first installment, making it the first time Sector 7, the fictional government agency tasked with addressing threats from the extraterrestrial world, makes an appearance. And this Sector 7, which had been working against the Autobots before the first Transformers movie, was shut down and repeatedly replaced in its sequels.

So, one can only hope that the filmmakers will find a way to bring Cena’s character back to further explore the mysterious agency’s background in the universe.

For the unversed, the Peacemaker actor appeared in the 2018 film, Bumblebee alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, and Pamela Adlon. The Marine, Trainwreck, F9, Suicide Squad, and Fast X are just a few other movies where the legendary WWE wrestler has made an appearance.

And if you don’t think his performance is particularly memorable in the Transformers series, don’t worry; Lorenzo di Bonaventura will remember them even if you forget.

‌Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is scheduled to premiere on June 9, 2023.
