Fans have been excitedly waiting for the return of Henry Cavill as Superman. After he reprised his role in the post-credit scene of Black Adam, everyone started talking about Man of Steel 2. Soon the British actor made it official by sharing a short video with his fans. Following his comeback as Man of Steel, the actor announced his departure from his Netflix show, The Witcher. Soon after the studio confirmed the sequel, and reports also revealed that they are looking for a director and writer for the film.
Fans were excited to see Cavill as Superman again. However, Warner Bros. still does not have a director and writer for Man of Steel 2. A report from The Wrap has claimed that there is no formal deal with the Man of Steel star for his return yet.
Warner Bros. Could Halt the Production of Man of Steel 2
Since the release of Black Adam, fans have been excited about Henry Cavill’s return as Superman. Multiple there have been multiple reports saying that the search for a director and writer for Man of Steel 2 is currently underway at Warner Bros.
However, a report from The Wrap has mentioned that the studio has still not finalized the director and writer for the film. It also claimed that the studio is stuck and there is no progress in the terms of production. The report further states that the studio does not even have a formal deal with the Justice League star for his return.
The CEO of the newly formed DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran has been busy “fine-tuning their long-range plan for the DCU.” The new update questions all the previous developments for Man of Steel 2. And this comes as a disappointment to fans as well.
The slow progress and the absence of any official deal can delay production. And it would be years before the sequel finally hits the big screen.
What Would be the Future of Superman in DCU?
In October 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as the CEO and the co-chair of the DC Studios, respectively. The Suicide Squad director has been hinting at multiple upcoming DC projects. However, there is still no confirmation of what the future of the DCU looks like.
Gunn and Safran have been working on a long-range plan. And The Wrap has claimed that they are planning to reveal this plan in the next two months. This new plan could also include updates related to Man of Steel 2.
Henry Cavill featured as Superman in Black Adam after his last appearance in Justice League. There have been multiple speculations about the Dawn of Justice star’s return.
Superman had a cameo at the end of the 2019 Shazam! However, the face of the superhero was not revealed, which led many to believe that WB is planning to recast the character.
However, fans still have high hopes for Man of Steel 2. With the Black Adam cameo, it can be speculated that the studio may not be planning to recast Superman. Henry Cavill has also confirmed that he would return as the Kryptonian Superhero. So, fans can still hold on to the hope of seeing their favorite superhero back in action.
