WB’s David Zaslav Believes That Writers Will Come Back To Their Jobs

During an hour-long earning call with some Wall Street analysts, there was anticipation that the topic of the WGA will be touched upon. However, that became a conversation of another time. David Zaslav, the CEO of WBD stated that he believes the strike will eventually end. His reason for believing so is that a majority of the people in any industry, work because they enjoy doing so.

“A love for the business and a love for working. We all came into this business because we love storytelling. That’s what’s going to bring us together.”

As writers, their passion strives for the art of putting words into sentences so as to create stories that bring about a world of entertainment and awareness. While it was hinted briefly that WBD highly benefits because of the strike in order to avoid further cost-cutting, Zaslav immediately dismissed the thought and confirmed against it. He thinks that the strike would fade and people would go back to work just as they were before because it is this work that they like to do the most.

David Zaslav Thinks Writers Need To Work Together With Everyone Else

David Zaslav understands why writers would choose to go on a strike. Not being paid as per what they deserve is always an issue to snatch motivation away for anyone to do their job. Writers are no different. Full and fair payment is not something that should even be asked and yet writers are being forced to go on strike just so their issues would come into light.

“In order to create great storytelling, we need great writers,” Zaslav said. “We need the whole industry to work together. Everybody deserves to be paid fairly.” He believes that the only way things can be resolved would be, “in a way that makes the writers feel they are valued, which they are, and compensated fairly. And then off we go.”

The strike has offered a sense of unpredictabilty that no studio is looking forward to. Already ongoing projects are being put on hold. Bigger and anticipated movies are looking helpless without writers, showing just how integral yet underpaid these storytellers were.
