Midway through the month of February, Damon Lindelof and Britt-Gibson allegedly sent in a script draft for their Star Wars project. While Lucasfilm has hired a replacement writer, the resignation of Lindelof and Britt-Gibson has left some viewers puzzled.

Damon Lindelof expressed concern about his role in the Star Wars universe during an interview with SlashFilm at SXSW, noting the “extremely high” degree of difficulty necessary in crafting a great Star Wars movie.
“I will just say, that for reasons that I can’t get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high.
He further uses analogies like “maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating” to explain his possible reasons for quitting the project.
“If it can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist. That’s all I’ll say, because I have the same association with it as you do, which is, it’s the first movie I saw sitting in my dad’s lap, four years old, May of ’77. I think it’s possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you start to get in the kitchen and you just go, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating.’ We’ll just leave it at that.”
Damon Lindelof is best known for his work on HBO’s critically acclaimed series Watchmen and The Leftovers. Britt-Gibson, meanwhile, has worked as a writer and co-producer on the Starz series Counterpart.
Here Comes Taika Waititi
While news of Damon Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s departure from the project may be disappointing for fans, it seems that the Star Wars franchise is still in good hands, as director Taika Waititi is set to direct and star in another upcoming project for the franchise.
