The Flash, one of the eagerly awaited DCEU films, has drawn mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes the movie has a 65% approval rating. And the fans could not help but compare The Flash’s ratings to one of the previous DCEU films, Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Rotten Tomatoes gave Black Adam a score of just 38%, which did not exactly win over critics. The shill media attacked The Rock’s Black Adam as the film did not do well at the box office, but it did still make some money.
Meanwhile, The Flash‘s second-weekend box office performance put it among the worst movies of all time. Thus, the cancellation of Johnson’s Black Adam 2 is no doubt following the critical and commercial failure of The Flash.
Note that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav and James Gunn have earlier deemed the Tooth Fairy actor’s 2022 film to be the best superhero film of all time. Alas, it failed to stand on their expectations.
Dwayne Johnson Black Adam 2 May Cancel After The Flash Disaster?
Hollywood trades now criticize DC, and some even question whether Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam sequel ought to have been scrapped in light of The Flash‘s failure. Well, the Andrés Muschietti’s film is already proving to be one of the worst superhero movies of all time and will probably barely break even. As per The Hollywood Reporter:
“Insiders concede the film, starring Ezra Miller, is a huge miss and is being rejected by audiences on a wholesale basis.”
Meanwhile, Deadline arguably notes how poorly The Flash is doing and even asks:
“Was it wise to nix Black Adam 2?”
In fact, Black Adam 2 was actually officially canceled by David Zaslav the week Black Adam was released. It was the time when James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced to be taking control of and rebooting the DC Universe.
Zaslav stated:
“I wonder how much of a negative impact the announcement made on the Black Adam box office as effectively, the announcement about Gunn taking over DC told fans Black Adam and Dwayne Johnson didn’t matter anymore along with the SnyderVerse and the Henry Cavill Superman who cameoed in the post-credit scene meant to set up Black Adam 2, Man of Steel 2 and more.”
The Latest Update On Black Adam 2
Black Adam 2 has not yet been confirmed, and it was not even included in James Gunn’s refreshed DCU schedule for Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. But there were other exciting new announcements such as a new Superman and a new Batman movie. And these new revelations also add another difficulty for Black Adam 2, as Henry Cavill is reportedly not coming back as ‘Superman’.
Black Adam had a large budget of between $190 and $260 million but only made $393 million globally. And probably due to poor box office performance, Warner Bros. has not formally confirmed Black Adam 2.
There had also been rumors that Black Adam might appear in other DC Universe movies, possibly interacting with Shazam, the antihero’s archenemy in the comics.
But currently, the makers are not likely to proceed with a follow-up to the solo Black Adam film because its box office performance was not all that strong. In addition, given the failure of The Flash, it seems unlikely that we can expect to see a sequel to Jaume Collet-Serra’s 2022 film succeed.
You can watch Black Adam on Max, and The Flash is available in theatres near you.
