Warner Brothers seems to be planning a re-release of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) 10-movie box set, and interestingly, the French Amazon listing for the product does not include either of the Suicide Squad movies. According to a report by ComicBook.com, the packaging and product description of the box set do not mention the 2016 Will Smith starrer film Suicide Squad, its 2021 standalone sequel The Suicide Squad, or the 2020 spinoff Birds of Prey.
Speculation has arisen that this omission could imply that these movies are not considered part of the newly-revised DC Universe canon, but it’s important to note that this is currently just conjecture.
Which Movies Will Be Included In The DCEU 10-Movie Box Set?
The upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) box set, which is expected to become available on the US Amazon site soon, is currently priced at 150,49€ (equivalent to approximately $165 USD). This comprehensive set comprises ten movies:
Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Shazam!, Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984, Black Adam, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

While many fans may express disappointment over the absence of the Warner Brothers’ Suicide Squad films in this DCEU box set, director David Ayer likely doesn’t share their sentiments. Ayer has been vocal about disowning the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad and seems unfazed by the prospect of fewer copies circulating. In fact, he criticized Warner Brothers’ handling of the film as a “studio hack job” as recently as April 2023. Ayer has also mentioned that those who have seen his version of Suicide Squad have been pleasantly surprised by its significant improvement compared to the released version.
How Different is Suicide Squad David Ayer’s Cut?
Over the years following the release of Suicide Squad‘s theatrical cut, director David Ayer has gradually revealed details about his original vision for the film. Many of these insights have surfaced online, often shared by Ayer himself. An alleged document containing the script of the 2016 blockbuster has even made its way around the internet, potentially shedding light on the significant differences that could have existed in Suicide Squad.
One notable aspect is the inclusion of a romantic subplot between Deadshot (Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), as well as a more prominent role for the Joker (Jared Leto). Ben Affleck’s Batman also had increased screen time, including a sequence depicting his victory over Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).
As for the possibility of fans ever witnessing the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad, it remains uncertain. However, Ayer recently confirmed that he has had discussions about its potential release with James Gunn, the co-chair and co-CEO of DC Studios. Ayer shared on Twitter that he had spoken with Gunn, emphasizing the need for patience and allowing Gunn to establish his new universe before revisiting the past.
“I spoke to [Gunn] a while ago. All with patience. He has the right to put together his new universe before visiting the past. Cheer up. Good things are coming,”
Ayer’s tweet hinted at positive developments to come, bringing hope to fans eager to see his original vision for Suicide Squad.
