Back in 2016, Tom Holland officially made his first appearance as Spider-Man as part of the highly anticipated Sony-Disney deal. Since then, Holland has appeared as Spider-Man in two solo movies and in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Despite the deal, Sony Pictures did not grant all the Spider-Man related intellectual rights to Marvel Studios, as made evident by Tom Hardy’s Venom and the upcoming Morbius starring Jared Leto. The sequel to Venom: Venom: Let There Be Carnage or Venom 2 is scheduled to release next year, further complicating the deal.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom had received mixed reviews for its story, pacing, and lack of connection to Spider-Man. However, Venom became a box-office success, mostly owing to Tom Hardy’s strong performance as Eddie Brock. After setting a record for an October box-office collection, Venom 2 will feature Cletus Kasady/Carnage as the movie’s main antagonist, played by Woody Harrelson, who appeared at the end of Venom.
While Venom getting a sequel is definitely great news for the fans of both the character and Tom Hardy, the movie still lacks one of its integral parts: Spider-Man. Though Venom is undoubtedly an exciting and complicated character, re-creating it as an entirely different entity without Spider-Man does not sit well with fans. But if reports are to be believed, this might change very soon with Venom becoming a part of the MCU.

Amazon and Party City have both posted listings of officially licensed merchandise for the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The Venom costume has retained most of its features from the first movie. But interestingly, there is an addition of the classic white spider insignia on the costume, hinting at the involvement of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the upcoming installment. As the costume has retained the whitish veins from the first movie, it is pretty much confirmed that the addition of the spider insignia is not just a nod to the comics.

Sony Pictures is also set to release Morbius starring Jared Leto in March 2021. As one of the popular adversaries of Spider-Man who later turned to become an anti-hero, Morbius sent the first signs of a shared universe when Michael Keaton made his appearance in the trailer. Though it has not been confirmed if Michael Keaton reprises his role of Adrian Toomes/The Vulture in Morbius, fans are hopeful that the Living Vampire will face Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in near future.

With reports of a live-action Spider-verse movie being confirmed by Fandomwire, the Sony-Disney deal is surely moving forward towards a shared universe. As Sony Pictures is also reportedly working on Silver & Black featuring Black Cat and Silver Sable, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will soon have a lot on his plate to handle.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is scheduled to release on 24th June, 2021.
