‘Velma’ Star Glenn Howerton is Confused Why Fantastic Four Director Hasn’t Called Him Yet for Reed Richards Role: “Matt Shakman is a very close friend”

Velma actor Glenn Howerton speaks about the idea of being fan cast in the upcoming MCU reboot of the Fantastic Four. Before the D23 Fan Expo of last year, fans learned that WandaVision’s director Matt Shakman would spearhead the movie. Since then, there have been many names attached to the film’s cast prediction.

Glenn Howerton Expresses His Intention To Play Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards

The Velma actor spoke with The Movie Dweeb regarding his upcoming voice role in HBO Max’s Velma, a spin-off of the Scooby-Doo series. Later on, he discussed playing the role of Reed Richards in Fantastic Four:

It would be super fun, and obviously, the director, Matt Shakman, is a very close friend and an absolutely incredible director, so it’d be super fun to work with him again. But ain’t nobody called me about that yet, but I would accept that phone call.”

Glenn Howerton clearly noted that he would love to work with Shakman again and that he is a close friend. The actor expressed his confusion as to why the director has not called him yet to offer the role, but he assured fans that when he gets the phone call, he will gladly accept the offer.

Not only will the Velma actor take on the challenge, but he will also offer to give a portion of his earnings if he ever becomes Mr. Fantastic.

You get me Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four movie, I’ll give you 75% of my…And by the way, I’m not joking, because I know they’re not gonna pay me that much anyways. It’s not gonna make that much of a dent. You go get me that role, I’ll give you 75%, that’s the deal.”

It seems that Howerton has been persistent in landing a Marvel role because, at one point, he also contended for the role of Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy, but eventually lost out to Chris Pratt.

Does Glenn Howerton Stand A Chance To Snag The Mr. Fantastic Role?

Reed Richards is one of the most in-demand characters for fan castings nowadays, although it seems that John Krasinski is the crowd favorite due to his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Howerton is only a couple of years older than Krasinski, but he would definitely make a great scientist impression. With his impressive body of work, he would indeed nail the role.

The Fantastic Four reboot will shy away from the origin story, so it seems that they will dive straight into the action with their established backstory. As the film won’t come out for another two years, fans won’t likely get a confirmation of the cast as of yet. But, because of Glenn Howerton’s declaration of willingness, he will remain on the franchise’s radar.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to premiere on February 14, 2025.
