Jennifer Coolidge has been in the spotlight after earning the Golden Globe Award for her recent performance in The White Lotus. Her role in the HBO series was well acclaimed by the critics and certainly gave a shift to her previous image in the Hollywood industry.
Coolidge’s previous characters often followed the same loop, as she was mostly seen portraying roles where she was either an object of desire or ridicule. Her recent project indeed gave her the recognition she deserved. However, her journey wasn’t a piece of cake, as the actress believes that it’s always hard for actors to maintain their position in the industry if they aren’t associated with a big name in the industry.
Jennifer Coolidge Wins Hearts with Her Latest Performance
American actress Jennifer Coolidge continues to spread her charm in the industry, even at the age of 61. The actress was recently honored with an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for her role as Tanya McQuoid in HBO’s The White Lotus.
The role indeed turned out to be a blessing for Coolidge, as it gave the audience a different perspective on her. Before being cast in the HBO series, the roles Coolidge portrayed didn’t give her the recognition she deserved; however, her role as McQuoid would certainly be a footnote in her memoir.
However, her Hollywood journey wasn’t easy, as during an interview, the actress explained how it is hard for actors to sustain themselves in the industry if they don’t have any acquaintances in the industry. The Legally Blonde actress said,
“Unless your husband’s a director and he’s gonna put you in all his films, you can’t just leave town for big chunks of time.”
Though Coolidge didn’t mention anyone’s name in particular, looking at the record of the nepotism-biased industry, it was speculated that she threw shade at DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn.
Is James Gunn the Flag Bearer of Nepotism in Hollywood?
The current co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, was once accused of nepotism as he cast his wife, Jennifer Holland, in DC movies. This also isn’t the only time he has worked with family. Sean Gunn, an acclaimed actor known for roles in both Guardians of the Galaxy as well as The Suicide Squad just happens to be James Gunn’s brother. A DC fan took to Twitter and called out the director for being nepotistic. The user wrote, “Stop putting your wife in every DC project.”
However, Gunn disagreed with the allegation and clarified that he has cast his wife in just one DC Film, The Suicide Squad. Gunn further explained that he isn’t responsible for the casting of Holland in the rest of the DC films as he was busy working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios.
Gunn married Holland in September 2022.
