Vin Diesel is popular for his action films, including the popular franchise, Fast and Furious. However, the action star has described the Riddick franchise as his passion project. The series started with the 2000 science fiction horror, Pitch Black, featuring the American actor as the lead. The 2000 film was followed by two subsequent films. While the first film did pretty well, the following sequels did not receive the same response as the first two films.
However, it did not impact the XXX star’s passion for playing Richard B. Riddick and he hyped his fans as he confirmed that he is set to return as Riddick in the next installment of the film.
Vin Diesel is Set to Return in Riddick: Furya
Back in 2019, Vin Diesel shared the first update about the next film in the franchise on his Instagram. He shared a snap of the script of the first draft of the fourth film. Later that year, the Bloodshot star confirmed that the Riddick 4 was still under development, as he listed it as one of his upcoming projects. And according to the latest updates, the Fast and Furious star is set to reunite with the director of Pitch Black for the upcoming film Riddick: Furya.
David Twohy will direct the film, with Diesel joining the project as the lead star and producer of the film. The Pacifier star’s production company, One Race Films, will produce the film alongside the American film producer Samantha Vincent.
Riddick: Furya would reportedly follow Riddick returning to his homeland, which he hardly remembers. Upon his return, he learns that many Furyans are like him and are fighting for their survival against a new enemy.
Director, David Twohy said that followed by years of waiting, they have finally decided to “honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya.” He further added
“My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”
Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance are planning to launch worldwide sales next week in Berlin at the European Film Market. Although Vin Diesel has lined up a number of films this year, including Fast X and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3, fans seem especially excited for his return as Richard B. Riddick.
Fans Rate Reddick as Vin Diesel’s Best Franchise Ever
As David Twohy officially announced Riddick: Furya, fans have been super excited to see the Pitch Black star back as Richard B. Riddick. They took to Twitter to express their excitement for the upcoming project. The Fast Five star is set to reprise one of his most popular characters, Dominic Toretto in the upcoming Fast and Furious film.
However, with the official confirmation of Riddick: Furya, fans seem to have sidelined the upcoming film as they said, “This over Fast and Furious any time of the day.” They also deemed the Riddick franchise as Vin Diesel’s best franchise ever, and Richard B. Riddick his best role.
And fans are also happy that the franchise is finally getting closer to development as the last film under the franchise was released almost a decade ago. No further details regarding its production and release date have been revealed yet.
Pitch Black is available to stream on HBO Max.
The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick(2013) is available to stream on Disney+.
