Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie are both wonderful actresses in the world of cinema. Starring in multiple blockbuster movies, both are known for their confident demeanor and independent spirit. Not only have they advocated for ‘women’ multiple times but have also been scrutinized by their industry ‘peers’ for their opinions.
While both Lawrence and Jolie have been subjected to ridicule, more than 8 years ago, Jolie received the worst kind of mockery. She was disrespected by Sony in a series of leaked emails. And Lawrence, then a young actress, couldn’t contain herself from speaking out against it.
Angelina Jolie Suffered The Worst Disrespect By Sony
Back in 2014, Scott Rudin, a producer, and the co-chairman of Sony, Amy Pascal were expected to work together on the biopic of Steve Jobs. However, after a series of disasters, Sony pulled out of the movie, leading to major disagreements between the two. In a series of leaked emails, multiple celebrities were called out by Sony and others in their private conversations.
In one email it was revealed that Angelina Jolie wanted David Fincher to direct her in Cleopatra rather than do the Jobs movie. To which Rudin wrote in a mail,
“YOU BETTER SHUT ANGIE DOWN BEFORE SHE MAKES IT VERY HARD FOR DAVID TO DO JOBS.”
As their conversation escalated, Rudin badmouthed the Eternals actress even more and called her a ‘spoiled brat’.
“There is no movie of Cleopatra to be made (and how that is a bad thing given the insanity and rampaging ego of this woman and the cost of the movie is beyond me)… I have zero appetite for the indulgence of spoiled brats and I will tell her this myself if you don’t.”
In another email he again stated,
“I’m not destroying my career over a minimally talented spoiled brat… She’s a camp event and a celebrity..”
While Jolie responded that she didn’t care and was used to it, her fellow Hollywood actress, Jennifer Lawrence had a lot to say.
Jennifer Lawrence Jumps To Angelina Jolie’s Defence
Jennifer Lawrence has always been too opinionated for an industry like Hollywood. And that is precisely why certain higher-ups don’t seem to like her. During the leaked email event, it was also revealed how less pay were female celebrities getting in comparison to their male counterpart Sony.
She expressed how she was being labeled as ‘difficult’ and ‘spoiled’, and having to take care of those ‘labels’ while her male co-stars had nothing to worry about,
“If anything, I’m sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share. Again, this might have NOTHING to do with my v*gina, but I wasn’t completely wrong when another leaked Sony email revealed a producer referring to a fellow lead actress in a negotiation as a ‘spoiled brat.’ For some reason, I just can’t picture someone saying that about a man.”
These leaked emails might be almost 10 years old, but the reality has hardly changed in Hollywood.
