“This is gonna be horribly paced, it’ll fail”: Brie Larson’s Next Marvel Movie is Destined to be a Flop? Fans Show Concern After Awful News About ‘The Marvels’

Brie Larson's Next Marvel Movie is Destined to be a Flop? Fans Show Concern After Awful News About 'The Marvels'

Brie Larson’s first Captain Marvel film in 2019 was a huge commercial success, passing the $1 billion mark which is a unique feat for a women-led superhero film. The character has since appeared in Avengers Endgame (2019) and is ready for her next adventure in the upcoming The Marvels (2023). The reputation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been shaky since the end of the Infinity Saga with several projects since 2021 being disappointing and lackluster.

Due to this, audiences have expressed their disdain for the MCU releasing projects that feel like unnecessary fillers and quantity-focused rather than focusing on quality and a unified vision. The Marvels is due for release in November and fans do not seem excited for the Larson-led sequel.

The Rumored Runtime for The Marvels is Surprisingly Short

A post by user Cryptic HD Quality on X, who had previously accurately predicted the runtimes of shows like The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka, seems to reveal the possible runtime of The Marvels. According to the post, the supposed runtime of The Brie Larson-led superhero film is currently placed at 1 hour and 33 minutes without credits. This is just an unvalidated account of one of the internet sleuths and no officially confirmed runtime has been released by Marvel or Disney.

If this runtime turns out to be true, the film will be the MCU’s shortest film. This is a double-edged sword and it can seriously affect the success or failure of the film.

A Shorter Runtime Can Either Be a Boon or a Curse

A short runtime is not necessarily a factor in the success or failure of a film. It all depends on the type of story that is being told and the effective use of the runtime that is chosen to tell the story. But for a superhero film like The Marvels starring three superpowered characters including Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel, the short runtime is surprising yet a bit concerning.

If the runtime is legit, the film may either be a case of ‘all killer no filler’ or a disappointing mess of a movie where every story beat is cramped in a short runtime. It remains to be seen whether the film is closer to the rumored runtime or a longer one as it nears its release date.

The 33rd film in the MCU will serve as sequels (due to its cast) to three projects including Captain Marvel, Wandavision (2021), and Ms. Marvel (2022), featuring three prominent leads in the form of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel. Samuel L. Jackson will also appear, continuing his arc after Secret Invasion (2023). Zawe Ashton will play the antagonist Dar-Benn. The official synopsis of the film reads,

“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe,” reads the synopsis. “When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The Marvels is scheduled to release in theaters on November 10, 2023.
