The star who is of South African descent, is also fluent in her native language Afrikaans which she uses to interact with her family. Theron along with her mother, once encountered a very sticky situation with a stranger at the airport about her mother tongue and spoke about it in one of her interviews.

Charlize Theron Was Caught Red-Handed Commenting On A Stranger

In a past appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Hollywood actor Charlize Theron spoke about an uncomfortable incident that she encountered at the airport with her mother. The Mad Max: Fury Road star whose native language is Afrikaans, was asked by Corden if she and her mother used their mother tongue as a way to comment on people without them knowing or understanding. Theron then proceeded to elaborate on a sticky situation involving a stranger at the airport and said,

“I was taking a flight to New York and this guy was very rude. My mom and I were just ripping into him thinking that he couldn’t understand a word. And then he turned around and stared at us and said….. ( speaking in Afrikaans). We had no comeback”

Theron added that she was completely taken aback by the man speaking to her in her mother tongue as only a very small percentage of people in the USA spoke Afrikaans. With the situation being very embarrassing, Theron admitted that she was unable to think of a valid response.

Charlize Theron Has High Hopes for The Old Guard 2

Charlize Theron will reprise her role as the leader of a group of immortal mercenaries in the sequel to the 2020 film The Old Guard. The Old Guard 2 which is expected to release on Netflix sometime in 2023, is also produced by Theron. The South African star was enthusiastic and hopeful for the film and said,

“I’m excited about our team coming back and having had all this time to really think about what we want the next story to be. It’s a big ask to want everybody involved to do action that’s raising the bar of what we did last time. It takes time and energy and effort and everybody has put that forth. I want to see the fruits of that labor.”

The Old Guard directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood which was released in 2020 on Netflix, reportedly had 78 million households viewing the film over its first four weeks. It was one of the most watched straight-to-streaming titles of the year. With The Old Guard 2, Theron will hope to improve this record by creating a bigger and better sequel with the cast’s commitment to the film.
