James Gunn, who used to be a Marvel Studios asset when their superhero universe was being shaped up, was let go by Disney leadership when some of his old insensitive Twitter posts surfaced a couple of years ago.
Just a year after Disney severed ties with Gunn in July of 2018, he was reinstated in March of 2019 to carry out his swan song in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was released this year.
After spending ten years at Marvel, Gunn jumped ship over to Warner Bros. where he was appointed as Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of the DC division along with Peter Safran.
A year hasn’t even passed into his new job, and a new Twitter post has surfaced by @DareRider8 who posted an image of his older Tweet; he made fun of a DC character years ago.
James Gunn Poked Fun At Iconic Batman Villain
The year 1989 saw the release of Tim Burton’s take on Batman in which Michael Keaton took on the cape and cowl. The film, on a budget of $48 million, swept the box office with a massive $411 million collection.
Though Keaton’s iteration turned out to be a hit, the cast had another powerhouse of an actor; Jack Nicholson (The Departed). Nicholson played Jack Napier aka the Joker.
James Gunn, during the early years of his career, posted Tweets on taboo subjects and criticized A-list actors, for no apparent reason.
The Tweet from @DareRider8 goes –
“Oh yeah, and Jack Nicholson as the Joker is Jack Nicholson in The Shining with shi-ty clown makeup. F-ck you, everyone involved with that travesty.”
Take a look;
Gunn’s troublesome past may have just crept up on him as the post has attracted DC fans who want him fired.
Fans Beg To Have James Gunn Fired From DCU
Ever since Gunn has taken over the DC division as the Co-CEO, he has upset fans over the new direction that he’s been boldly presenting.
Henry Cavill’s exit from the roster as Gunn decided to move ahead with a younger Superman attracted much heat. After displaying his passion for DC characters in the exclusive Fandome event in January, the resurfaced Twitter post may just create more problems for him.
What fans have to say –
DC’s Blue Beetle has just been released, and James Gunn on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast in June revealed that Xolo Maridueña’s hero is the first official DCU character, with David Corenswet-led Superman, the first proper DCU film.
Blue Beetle was released on August 18 and is currently in cinemas.
